Default Tuning with the SMT6

Howdy all,

Well, after the recent Vitesse Stage II install and tuning with the SMT6, all I can report is that this package is awesome! Although I'm still learning about it, the SMT6 produces a fuel map that can be view via lap top computer in the car. The fuel map is made up of a grid of column and row much like a spread sheet. The "active cell" of the map moves around as RPM and engine load change. The vertical movement being controlled by the RPM and horizontal by MAF sensor voltage. The really nice thing is that I can change the numerical valve of any give cell and thus modify the AFR for that give RPM and engine load. Also, the SMT6 gives me the option of logging my runs thus I can go back and analyze what the AFR's were throughout a range of RPM's and engine loads. I still need to put on some more break-in miles before I turn up the boost but right now 12psi with a 12.4 AFR and pulling like a bull makes me smile! The next step is 15psi, a little fuel map modification with the SMT6 and then trying to keep the car pointed in the right direction!!!

Hey,,,you can POST!! Nice to tell everyone how the tunings been going.

For comparisons sake,,how would you say that the new kit at 12 psi, how does it feel compared to your previous stock setup with K26, superchips, and 14psi? I know that you're about breaking tires loose in first gear,,that is pretty impressive with those new Goodyear F1's!

Once totally dialed in, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that you can break the tires loose in 2nd and 3rd gear...

Once you turn up the boost some, make sure the car is pointing straight before you pull the trigger

Any plans on dynoing your car once you get it tuned at 15 psi? I know there are plenty of people waiting to see the results...

I would love to have that level of tunability. I still use the 4 ***** of my ARC2 to massage my APE chips.

So, can I use this piggy-back system to replace the ARC while retaining the rest of my Hutley parts (Stage 2 turbo--full boost at 2900, Stage 4 MAF, bigger injectors, Profec B controller, Deltagate)?

I see the piggyback listed at $750 on the vitesse.com website. Does this include new chips and everything needed to get me cell-level fuel tuning on the laptop? Does it come with initial best-guess fuel maps for a car like mine? (I trust the laptop is not needed to run the car, but rather is used just for tuning, right?)

* Chips are not included with the Piggyback kit.
* The PiggyBack allows you fine tuning.
* The laptop is needed while tuning and data logging.
* Initial maps are only provided with the MAF kits.

Fast951,

So what would you suggest for my car -- I hate to throw out perfectly good parts (MAF, turbo, injectors, etc.), but I am very envious of those with more than 4 ***** for fuel tuning. The ARC2/APE is the only part of the Huntley set-up that seems like a weak link to me. With your piggy-back, can I tune out the APE mid-rpm rich spot? Will it connect up to the HR MAF? Do I need to ditch it all and start over with your Stage II kit? If so, will that improve on the 320-330rwhp I am now getting at 18psi on 91 octane, with full boost under 3k? If you'd prefer to discuss off-line, my e-mail is tomatlarge@yahoo.com Thanks. Tom

Tom, I'll email you directly..

Guys, please do not encourage evil944t, as is he can't get enough.. He's already planning a 3.0L turbo. I guess he wants to spin them at 100mph (which I don't encourage for the obvious reasons).

Man you guys really need to get an LSD .

Kumho 265's street tires and I can't break loose in 2nd gear or powershifting into 3rd gear at 450whp.

If I'm turning, that's a different story!

rage 2,

Evil944t does have a LSD. Also, he is using the chips with mild timing...

Do you have a dyno chart of your car? A 2.8L with the proper turbo and tuning should spin the 265 in 3rd gear...
