I got the car with a pioneer head unit with 50W. Not a bad unit but the speakers in the car were a major problem. Also the speaker mount brackets in the back were both cracked and vibrating and the speaker wiring was wrong.

I fixed the speaker mount brackets by cutting and gluing some Masonite over the metal brackets. No more vibration and a good mounting surface.

I put 4 new 4x6 speakers in the stock spaces. Blaupunkt GTx 462 Mk II they were cheap about $80 per pair.

The fit is good because you have more depth in the cabs with the fixed part of the door windows. Only bad part is the stock grills wont work and the ones that come with the speakers are not really period looking but I live with it until I have the time to do something better looking.

I then installed an amplified 8" bazooka tube in the trunk for bass since you can't get bass from 4x6 speakers. Doesn't take up too much space in the limited trunk and is very easy to install.

End results absolutely no modifications to the car and good sound. Not blow you away fantastic but certainly on par with most of the decent OEM systems out there. I will eventually upgrade the head unit to something more powerful since it runs out of power when the roof is down on the highway and I want to blast the tunes. I could alternatively add an amp but would prefer to avoid mounting something else in the car.

I have not seen another 944 cab in Montreal either. Isn't it fun to be unique!

Well I bit the bullet (only a $78 bullet which is cheaper than filling the gas tank some days, but thats another topic :-). I bought the Infinity Kappa 4 x 6 Plate speakers here:

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-4629C...5519399&sr=8-1

I only bought a single pair for the front because I have better plans for the back. I have heard that there is a way to put either 6x9 or (my preference) 6.5" round component speakers with tweeter in the rear by removing the adapter bracket thats in there. I guess my problem is that I don't know how to get to to the rear speakers, but then again I have only given them a cursory looksie. I really hope to be able to do something decent back there because I would love to be able to maintain punchy mids in this car. The bass can come from a small sub if I want it, but its difficult to get good mids in cars (especially convertibles) so I am hopeful I will come up with something. For now the two in the front will at least get me music, and I can worry about the rear a bit later when I am ready. I will post any findings here as they come. I think if I end up actually digging in and customizing the rear I am going to make a tech article on this forum for it because its impossible to find speaker install ideas for these Cabs!

As for my car, I don't have any good pics yet but here is one I took for the insurance company:

looks like a nice cab!

Getting to the back speakers is easy. The plastic pieces covering the area come off with 4 or 5 screws. No sweat. I am quite certain that 6.5" would be quite easy. Good luck and let me know how the speakers you ordered sound. I was considering them when I was first looking.

Hey. I have a bazooka tube in the back too! I'm not sure I like it, as when I collapse the roof, the rear window sits on top of the sub. When I put the top back up, it has two indents/wrinkles where the window goes over the edges of the sub box.

Now this is just my situation, as my 944 is a custom convertable conversion, but keep an eye on your placement

As for what have I done lately, I have swapped my 16" fusch's for 16" cup wheels, and now to some "dealer option" original wheels..no pics yet

no such problem with the top on my s2 cab and the bazooka. Top does not go into the trunk when down.

I posted the same question but wasnt really sure how to go about it so I started this thread in hopes of just finding out how many cabs are on Rennlist.
I keep seeing them getting parted out so it just makes ours that much more rare. Still doesnt mean they are worth anything though!

Peter Morgan's book "Original Porsche 924/944/968" list the production numbers for Cabriolets as follows:

90 US/Canada 1,824 RoW 2114

recently upgraded mine with Koni's - what a difference! added new Yoko S-drive tires and M030 caster blocks. Just turned 133,000 miles yesterday and running great. Purchased in April 09.

this is my favorite car, and funny enough, only two options - partial leather & cruise control. Judging from the warranty manual, it was a demo for the dealer's wife or daughter in TX.

I want to check into the Autopower rollbar to stiffen it up a bit and a strut brace, and then just keep adding the miles
