1982 928 sunroof
Recently ditched my 3rd gen camaro and bought an 82 928 5 speed. Problem is unlike the 3rd gen there's virtually no reliable source of technical knowledge on the web as far as I can see. I didn't buy a car so much as I bought a pile of parts lol and right now I'm stuck on the sunroof. Previous owner boxed and labeled all the parts and screws but I can't figure out how it assembles and functions and I can't find any complete info online. If any of you are curious about the overall condition it's virtually rust free but has hail damage hence sunroof is out also doesn't have a windshield. Runs strong (93k miles), first thing I did was front and rear shift linkage bushings to get it driving again. All the interior is out previous owner removed and re-apolstered everything in suede as well as wrapped all the plastic trim in carbon fiber. The maintenance book that came from the dealer claims original owner bought the car in Saudi Arabia and shipped it to california when the second owner purchased it. The car doesnt appear to be a euro spec however (vin and marker lights consistant with us models). I can post pics if anyone cares to see it. Thanks for reading my book and for any advice you might have.
Update: just found what appears to be a track bar that bridges across the sunroof rails and connects to the actual sunroof. Still have no idea how the trackbar physically connects to the cables on the rails but it's progress.

Near the end of the "New Visitor" sticky, there is a very good writeup on the sunroof. All you need to know.
Welcome. You have found the best source for info about these cars. Ask nicely, say "Thank you" and follow up your problems with solutions and you will get sound advice on any problem you encounter.
And as a sidenote, Shorter sentences, lots of spacing, along with caps, punctuation, spelling and grammar (you have those) make posts easier to read. The easier it is to read, the more likely people will read it.

I must have glanced over it when I skimmed through the stickys earlier I don't remember seeing it. I guess that makes me "that guy" lol. I'll go back and find it. Thankyou.

Try post #56, page 4.
If you weren't looking for it, it's not too surprising you missed it.
There's a ton of good info in that thread. I still go back and skim it every once in a while.

She's rough but not too bad considering I only paid 1500. Interior was completely gutted when I bought it last week. I'm thinking I can get a glue puller to lift the hail dents but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. As far as the sunroof goes after poking around more threads and downloading a service guide I'm almost dead sure I'm missing parts. The adjustable mounts on the sunroof arnt close enough to the pins on the end of the cables. It looks like I need some sort of linkage to attach the cables to the sunroof. I'll post pics of exactly what I'm talking about In a few minutes.

So as it turns out I'm a complete idiot lol. The adjustable sunroof mounts work a whole lot better if you don't bolt them on backwards. Who woulda thought. I do have some new info I think may be helpful to some. The previous owner had a custom sunroof and hood made of carbon fiber to replace the hail damaged originals. Turns out the replacement is far thicker than the original and causes clearance issues when attempting to retract the sunroof into the roof. If anyone is considering doing a similar replacement make sure you get the thickness right. I have a good feeling that clearance issues is going to be a recurring theme on my car since the po wrapped half the interior in carbon fiber adding atleast 1/8th of an inch to the edge of every piece of trim
