Well, 6061T6 is a good bit softer than 7075T??? (???=don't know the tempering specs), which I am pretty sure is what Roger's gears are machined from, and I believe 6061T6 is comparable in wear quality to the older Porsche gears, but the price is certainly very good. My opinions only.

They're a good seller. I've bought several used parts from them. But I think I'd feel like a bit of a guinea pig trying these. I wonder if they're coated? Are Roger's coated?

Read the listing on eBay. Says they are hard anodized. With that and the fact that they are considered worn out when the coating is worn thru, it probably doesn't make much difference if they are 6061 or 7075.

Jerry, you are correct of course, and apples to apples would consider the coating as well, but there is also the nature of what is beneath the coating. I learned about the functional wear characteristics of 6061 vs. 7075 in a pretty odd way: building electric basses. Never mind why I did what I did, I prototyped aluminum fretboards in 6061 and they wore out pretty quickly. For production (oh ha ha, never made enough to call it production...) I used 7075 and 2341 (which by the way have surface hardness approx. equal to the bronze fret wire normally used). Remarkable difference in favor of the harder alloys, actually no comparison at all. 6061 wore pretty quickly, the other two didn't.

6061 is what the old gears were made of and much softer than 7075.
Porsche upgraded to 7075 with a hard anodized finish. Probably the last gears you will ever buy providing the TB is kept at the right tension.

Considering how old our cars are and since not many are daily driven, any new gear will more than likely will be the last set the car will ever see.
