1985 15.6k mile IrisBlau Auto #0960
This is a follow up thread regarding the low mileage 1985 Iris BLue Metallic available on autotrader 10 days ago.
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...l#post14047851
I texted the seller before I posted the ad here but never heard back to get more info for Rennlist members. When he did not return the text, I went to sleep not having had another thought about it. However, the seller texted me back surprisingly at 7A East Coast time (I new the car was located in CA), and after a few texts, I decided to call him at that time.
It was apparent after a few minutes that the seller was legit and knew everything about the car, confirming that it was sold ~10 years ago from State College, PA. When he told me why he's selling and what other 928s were in his possession (I was more interested in earlier '78-79 if he had any), something clicked in my mind and connected to the info provided when he answered the phone, "Hello, this is Dwayne".
So, once I went on the limb and asked if he was "Dwayne" from Rennlist and he answered affirmative, I offered to buy the car immediately without needing to know anymore info on the car. However, being an honest person and a professional, he provided over the next few days detailed history, maintenance records (his), and the "nit picks" of the car before he was satisfied with the transaction. Having had loss a couple of purchases recently from buyers who didn't keep their words, I was very happy that Dwayne is a man of his word and held the car for me and gave me the right of first refusal to purchase the car, while there were plenty of buyers practically knocking on his door to give him a deposit and buy the car.
Here is a very abbreviated list of what Dwayne has done for the car since his purchase in 2009, and I am so fortunate to know that no major maintenance is needed for the next few years. But if I need work done, another 928 professional is here in Philadelphia that I trust wholeheartedly with this collectible as much as with my last collectible, Weissach #155. You may have heard of him, Stan Kolen, MrMerlin!
2012 Aug: 12.7k miles:
-Intake Refresh (Dwayne's intake refresh, so you know it is done right)
-New Fuel, Power Steering, Radiator hoses
-AC converted back to R-12
-New tires
2016 April-Aug: 15.6k miles:
-Engine Out: slight oil weeping from front head (no damage was evident)
-new silicone oil pan gasket
-new head gaskets
-new timing belt with tensioner rebuilt
-new complete set of belts
-new Porsche motor mounts
2016 Nov: 15.6k miles
-passed CA smog (idle/2500) HC 0/1, CO% 0.00/0.00
-No more leaks

Congrats Hoi,
A car in that condition with that level of service recently completed and by Dwayne to boot will surely never come around any time soon.
Next time I will pick up the phone quicker. I was caller #2. LOL

And just when I thought I had the nicest, lowest mile Iris Blue 1985 928S! LOL!
Beautiful car!! Congrats!! I have the near twin to your car, but mine has 36k miles. Mine also has a navy blue interior instead of tan.
I'm in New Jersey so maybe I'll run into you at some point! I checked my serial number. Assuming it's the last four digits of the vin, my car is 1691...just 731 units later than yours! Congrats again!!

That's super cool that it is Dwayne's car. A Rennlist legend for sure. Does he post here anymore? I don't remember seeing anything from him since I've been frequenting here.
Great car Hoi. Love that color, inside and out.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I feel so very lucky to be in possession of this car, because if I had purchased the early silver '78 OB from Denver, I wouldn't have a chance on this car. Hopefully, my life will stay on course, and I wouldn't have to sell it for any emergency! Storage has already been arranged here in West Chester PA (regretted not doing it for Weissach #155). This car will be my youngest child's 529 plan (he's 18 months old).
Dwayne's reputation aside here on Rennlist, he is truly a gentleman and a pleasure to work with during the transaction process.

Hoi,
Do you plan to go to the PVGP?
That would be the perfect time to show us this beautiful example.
I'm sure many other owners would love to see your car.
I read that Stan might be there also...
If not at the PVGP, Frenzy maybe...
