Hagerty says it is only a 20% hit, but I think it is greater when you get into the corners of the market. There aren't that many GTS's.

The part about driverless electromobiles is true, but that is not the market that anyone here is interested in. And Michael does know the 928 market, he doesn't do anything without a reason.

The thing that bothers me is this: 928s are great cars, no matter what the color, gearbox or gender. If this were a democracy then 5-speeds would be outvoted 2 to 1 (as would Cobalt Blue), but it is not. Each car is important, even the ones being held together by hopes and dreams.
Roger, we love you dearly. But why are you so intent on annoying a third of your potential market?

Jim, Annoying? I can't speak for Roger but I would think that all of this is in good jest. Is it any more annoying than debate about HP vs torque or Amzoil vs whatever? Hell no. It's the competitive guy thing about whose d..k is longer, my car is faster, my GF has a bigger set-type BS and of course, Rogerboxes are better than manual transmissions. That is all part of the camradarie her on RL. Nothing personal, actually, unless you're a REALLY good friend and you want to stick it to them for sh-ts and giggles. At least, that's my take. Enjoy!

Speak for yourself Jim. I reckon he's a whining, cantankerous, doddering, annoying, argumentative, slush box loving, old pommy bag of wind ....

I'm going back to playing with my wallaby ....

Jim you've been around the 928s a lot longer than me, so what is his reason for pricing them outside what the market will bear? In my two and half year search for a car these two GTS's have been on eBay the whole time. Same price. Never sold. My personal opinion is that he is just waiting for the market to catch up and if someone bites in the meantime even better. But car dealers hate sitting on inventory so I guess I'm perplexed. Others on this board have had good things to say about Willhoit so I'm curious to understand his methods.

The only used part I'd prefer from an automatic 928 would be a LSD. Or perhaps a tachometer. Or the rear tires.

Clutches get worn out. I've gone over 600k (yes, 600 thousand) miles on one clutch in a semi truck. Admittedly, much of that was top gear on the highway. Also went over 90k on my Blazer and the clutch was still in very good shape.

I find this little back and forth far less annoying than the oil debates or HP v TQ. Mostly because those are serious. This isn't. Also because a certain someone isn't polluting it.

He's been around a while. He sells quite a few cars. He knows what he's doing.

Something to keep in mind is that his niche in the 928 market is very small. He has rare, high priced, supposedly high-quality, purported low mile cars. These really aren't 'driver' cars. They are 'park and look at' cars. Buyers aren't very common. Seeing this sort of car sit for sale for a long time (months easy) is not at all unusual.

There was a guy on Facebook that got really pissy when Roger was joking around like this. Was that guy you?

Yeah, this most definitely isn't serious, hopefully the use of smiley emoticons has made that self evident. If I ever used a 928 as a DD around here in this traffic nightmare, it would certainly be an automatic. And I suspect Roger would sell me a pressure plate were I to ask.

But in all seriousness,

Since I can't walk and chew gum at the same time, Rogerbox for me.

Nope, not me. I rarely go to Facebook, other than for the news. And if I do, I use my name

Really Jim, a 64 year old 1953 video? That's your proof? I'll never get the 12.41 minutes of my life back that I spent watching that. Too funny, but it does state: "Another advantage (of a fully equipped automatic transmission) is that the absence of engaging mechanical parts minimizes the wear due to this cause, which is not true of a mechanical clutch." Maybe they know something after all these years. After all, virtually all race cars today are Rogerboxes of some sort! I really did kinda like the effort you made to drag that video up, though. Enjoy!

I found it quite interesting.
Especially the bit at the end when they recommended the best fluid had estrogen in it
