Passenger side window operation issue
On my current 928 I have had a number of issues with the power windows. Usually I solve the issue by pulling the guts out of the door, clean/grease things and hey presto. When there is an issue they simply do not work up or down- i.e. nothing at all.
This evening I had pleasant drive in 40 degree heat and near home spotted a friend out jogging so pulled up to have a chat. Open the passenger side window for the first time in a while and afterwards pulled away. As I pulled away the window opened about 1 inch or so above the door frame and then made a strange "buzzing" noise when under power but went no further. Closed it again- no problem- tried opening it again- same issue.
Carried on to home a few hundred metres away and took another look. This time tried physically to assist the window when under power but no joy.
Anyone recognise the symptoms? I will pull it out tomorrow but hate working in this heat. Should be able to get some a/c effect in the garage.

I would avoid trying to power it until you inspect it. Open up the door and check the motor window arm, and window itself, for mechanical obstruction. Check that the motor arm is not bent. Then check the motor.
I experienced an issue with one of my cars that sounds similar. The arm was bent, possibly due to icing during the winter. The bent arm contacted the glass and it would not go all the way up. Putting power to the motor eventually shattered the glass. Lesson learned for me.

I am certainly going to pull the workings out again and the problem may well be patently obvious when I do so. Things that make strange noises do not bode well with me but have not heard or experienced this one previously.

Despite the summer heat I decided to get up early and have a crack at this before it got too hot. Takes me about 15 minutes to get everthing out of the way and pull the winder motor.
When I powered the motor it would spin a few turns of the output cog and then stop. It would reverse a few turns and then stop. Figured it must be a stripped tooth on the worm gear main cog. Fortunately my spares kit from the S4 has both winders, so cleaned the spare up a bit, greased the drive cog and hey presto -it worked fine. Job finished in just over an hour and about half my body weight in sweat on the deck!
Eventually I will take a look at the motor I pulled to confirm what has gone wrong.

Here are some detailed pics of the left side assembly. Please note all the part numbers on the motor. If you search for these on eBay you will find a bunch of matches with Saab, Volvo, and Mercedes all for about 10-30 usd.

I have had a problem with windows working intermittently in my 81. My driver side has always worked, but the passenger side only does sometimes. Yesterday, the passenger side decided to work (a friend rolled it down) but once down would not go back up. To add to it, now the driver side does not work. Fuses and relays look fine. Grounds to the circuit board are cleaned. What else might explain intermittent window function?
Also, neither seat controls nor sunroof work.
