Why do automatic transmission NEED to have coolers
Same reason that the crapboxe's had a cooler added.

Pretty much none of the manual boxes have cooler (ex for a selected few) and ALL automatics that I've ever seen or heard of had to have a cooler. So that should tell you the kind of energy loss they are generating.
In 89 they realized what a mistake they had made with the "snatchbox" and started to find ways to modify it in a vain attempt to make it a little better.
Took them a couple of years of serous engineering and testing to find that by adding a "snatchbox" cooler the high drive-train losses could be mitigated slightly. So the cooler added in 92 was an expensive waste of time.
It's ok, Roger, don't worry, if you run out of 'precious' Rogerbox flywheels, Mark's got your back. You'll note there are many fewer flexplates, as those, oh yeah, break.
Sure, if you need to hold down printouts of the flexplate release, Bowden cable adjustment , or ATF level check procedures so they don't blow away in the driveway while you're struggling with those tasks. I can _totally_ see where those flywheels would come in handy.
I wonder how many of the girls that have snatchboxes have had to replace the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, TO bearing. linkage and LSD parts as opposed to those that had to replace their Rogerboxes? BTW, every automobile at the bottom of my sig (and a few other domestic ones too) other than my DD was a 4 or 5-speed. Been there, done that. My Rogerbox has 142K on it and has had no issues in 16 years other than doing the appropriate filter and fluid changes. I doubt many manuals have gone half that distance. Next....................
Ok, that's all true, clutches wear out. 'Specially the part about rebuilding the LSD, as the 5-speed transmits enough power to the wheels to actually give the friction disks a workout, while Roger's box is the fuse that protects the diff. The only used part I'd prefer from an automatic 928 would be a LSD. Or perhaps a tachometer. Or the rear tires.

Nope. Market is silent. These starting bids are Willhoit's pipe dream that he entered as the seller. If you notice there are actually zero bids. So I think the market is saying they prefer driverless electric cars.
