Is the 04 backwards compatible and what are the difference need to check on possible o2 issues for testing.
Thanks

The 928 618 123 04 is for the US 32v early 5 litre engines. These have the circuits for O2 loop and also idle stabilisation loop.

The 928 618 123 00 does not have these circuits, and this is the early unit fitted to MY84 16v 4.7 litre cars. The 85/86 Euros were fitted with 928 618 123 02. These also omit the O2 loop and ISV circuits.

There is another significant difference between the 00 and all the other variants, for both 16v or 32v. The 00 has a different uC clock speed and the software is totally different. This is why the 00 cannot be Sharktuned.

John,

Are the plugs the same between an -04 and a -00 LH computer?

And along those same lines, can the -04 be used in a Euro 84-86?

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you use the 04 unit in lieu of the 01 unit just by changing out the chip?

I would have to go back and check my records but I believe this is what I did. You need to use Johns chips though.

That's what I'm hoping John will say.

I have a question about the 928 618 123 00 control unit. As I understand it was used in -84 16v euro cars. Can it be used in 85-86 16v euros as well?

I've bought a non running -85 euro with 928 618 123 00 control unit. The car runs with a 928 618 123 02 from a -86 euro.

Is the car supposed to run with the 928 618 123 00, or not? I haven't tested the 928 618 123 00 in another car, so it 's possible that the control unit is broken.

Hi Mattias
A 928 618 123 00 can be used in a 85/86 Euro 16v without problems. they are functionally the same.
But bear in mind that the software structure is totally different to the 85/86 so this means you can't use an 00 with the Sharktuner. Nor can you swap an 02 EPROM into an 00. (and vice versa)

The uC clock speeds are also different.

Thanks John!

I will stay original, so the different software will not be a problem.
