This is not really acceptable as you do not have any rust like the one in the photo!
Look forward to seeing some pics in use- very impressive. Presumably the intent is to facilitate installation of the entire drive train in one hit Porsche style.

True to that Fred! When they built these cars they rolled them from one building to another for building, so, I bet they got wet often. I observed this first-hand as I used to live in Stuttgart back in 1990. Btw, Stuttgart is a wonderful city, very large, spread out in a very non-German manner, ie Sprawl!

I'm doing this purely as a side indulgence. This car literally fell in my lap, and I figure it's 'cool', I know little about these cars, but, my learning curve will be steep as the Body is coming off and onto another Dolly for the Body. I do this to 'service' every item needed and clean, lubricate, media blast, paint, polish, rebuild etc as required. The engine will need some work, how much and to what extent I do not know. I will not put a Chevy engine in it btw. This engine will be assessed and fixed or, replaced. I know nothing of its service history, the last owner didn't provide me the paperwork, so, it's a start over process with me, having full access will make it all easier and hopefully cheaper, and certainly much faster, plus, I can lay claim to some pretty cool actions in this process.

Previous owner couldn't get it running, and left it outside with the Hood open a crack with the spark plugs out (actually that was the 'Bubba' mechanic) for 3 yrs and the result was the engine was full of water, I drained it, and put new good oil in it, cranked it -- had 5 bar Oil Pressure. I pulled the gas tank and found a reason why it would not run, but, the said mechanic didn't ever discover the fuel lines were mush around the tank, totally collapsed rubber lines, I cut them apart and they no longer would allow fuel to flow thru them. I hate chasing my tail on little items - learned this dealing with customers who opine "I think I can save the Qtr Panel" after I blast it and it's rusted all to heck. There is no saving rotted crap like that, the entire panel must be replaced -- and they make nice aftermarket panels. I look at my 928 like this, no small issue will derail me, I will handle all the issues at once, en mass, easily and better. Takes a lot more time up front (like now) but the end result will be a good as new drivetrain and suspension going into a totally rust free Body.
