Carefully inspect the bore of the pulley(s) where they fit over the crankshaft snout. Others who have suffered this problem have discovered that the bore is damaged from spinning on the crankshaft, forcing replacement of the pulley. Just a heads-up before you just slide the bolt and washer back in.

I'm afraid I forgot to tighten the bolt after doing a timing belt change, I had started the car and and checked for any problems, water leaks etc before going for a test drive, I backed the car out of the garage and got halfway down the drive when the dash lit up, the volt meter was reading zero and I lost the power steering.
Luckily no damage was done and I soon had it fixed though my pride was a little hurt.

Nice one squirrel!
Well at least you did not put the wrong lower control arm in- in 40C heat like I did a couple of weeks ago. The front wheel alignment was "interesting" [read comical].
Now write 100 lines: "I must tighten the crank pulley before removing the crank locking tool" [I presume you had one?]
I take it you inspected the crank keyway carefully to ensure no damage was done and you put the washer on the right way round when you re-installed the pulley assembly.

You're right Mrmerlin, my bad.
Yes Fred, I sent myself to stand in the corner for a while. (What the teachers did at my school when you were naughty) plus, I think I'm getting to old to be working on cars.
Only the pulleys fell off, the damper never moved.
