Ed,

The GTS rears are 9 inch and can handle a 275 section quite nicely just as Alan says.

Running a 928 with a 7.5 inch rear is a complete waste of time in my [hopefully] humble opinion- sorry to say. With a 17 inch wheel the minimum rear section you should be contemplating is a 255 section and if you use a 235 up front then use a 265 on the rear and then you need rims that can carry such thus the need for a 9 inch rim on the rear.

That you can fit a 235 is a fact but a very poor compromise I would say but then I am not totally sure what the stock fitment on your model is other than the earlier models ran with a 225 on the rear so in that regard 235 would be an upgrade.

I run with a 265 up front and 295 on the rear so please excuse where I am coming from, but if you had a 255 on the rear [or wider] you would not regret it- it probably all depends on how you like to drive and budget of course.

I am a long term Michelin user but my last set of rubber- Continental- lasted better in our heat than Michelin and were just as good in my opinion- ironically I can get neither out here in my sizes at the moment.

Good luck/rgds

Fred

I recently replaced the aging (but not worn out...) PS2's with Pilot Sport AS-3's and it's a good choice so far. They are quiet, with street handling and ride easily comparable with the summer-only PS2's. I've ridden in several cars with other tires and like the quiet, handling and ride quality that the Michelins deliver. Hopefully I'll get some miles on them in next five or six years to justify replacement due to wear rather than based on age alone.

I don't disagree with a thing you said Fred, but there is one very critical limiting factor that you have not considered - I only have 7.5" wheels all the way around - that was the set that was available and that I bought. So the wider rear is a moot point for me. I'll go 235's on the rear, and 225's on the front, and that'll be that.
