looking for what folks like on Cup 1's. How wide do you go on the 7 1/2 size wheel? 225/45ZR/17 seems to be the norm, but can you go wider? What brands do folks like?

I am a Bridgestone man myself. Michelin Pilot Sport tires have a following. Kumho makes some really sticky tires under their Ecsta line - I think the Ecsta Viper ACR is almost as soft as a race tire.
I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 on my 928 and like them. I think Mr. Sobek has them too.

Otto- got your pm; most gracious offer, and I'll take you up on it. I have the same tires as Rick on Blumaxx, and like them a lot. The Bridgestone website is terrible though - trying to find what size tires they have in each model is a challenge

I absolutely love the performance of the Pilot Sports A/S 3+ on my Mustang, especially on the track (I do not run dedicated track tires, but these street tires are great on the track). My Bridgestone Potenzas on Blumaxx are very good too. I've had good success with Contis in the past as well. I am leaning to the Michelins. We'll see.

I'm sold on the Conti's. I have DW's on the Boxster and the new DWS 06 fresh on the 928 (yes, I drive it year round.) Nice sticky tire with decent tread wear and nearly the same grip in the all-season version (DWS 06) versus the summer-only (DW.) All for $750 all in for the DWS's at my local independent tire shop.
The low noise of the new DWS 06 version is amazing in a wide, sticky tire.

- 235/45ZR17 (Y) Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the front - PS2 no longer avail in this size - and I prefer the Super Sport anyway
- 275/40ZR17 (Y) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on the rear
I wouldn't go wider on Cup1 stock GTS rim widths. This is the best combination I've ever had (for nice warm weather obviously).

no can do the 275s on the rear, as my wheels are all the same size - 7.5. The widest I can go is 235 I think. You must have 9's on the rear.
