Locking gas cap no longer locks
My S4 has the original locking gas cap keyed to the main car key. Today I realized it no longer locks, meaning it appears to work because the key will lock and unlock it, but when it is "locked" I can still twist the cap to remove it.
Suggestions?

Alan Moore or John Pitman, both members here may still have some metal pawls which they fabricated. Much more reliable than the old plastic originals.
I got one of them in Oct '14 and works perfectly.

I have had this failure on both my 928's- fortunately over here folks are not so petty minded as to put sugar in the fuel tank so not too much of a concern.
If there is a solution to this issue maybe someone can advise Roger and perhaps we can get him to market such.

I have bumped the thread I made about the Gas Cap Separating tool I have still not yet completed. Not much left to do to it. At the end of it there is included the work I was doing to make some complete Pawls for the caps. That too is not completed.
Sometimes it is just something small that holds me up or puts me of on many off my projects. Here one of the things is that I wanted to have some of the pieces of the device anodized, but the anodizer needs to know the alloy, and I don't know on some of the pieces. Also, that was going to cost about $250. I made these out of scrap aluminum that I had laying around. Another thing is there just seemed to be some lack of interest in the overall program I had in mind; and I think in one of the other threads some of the other pawls that were being made available seemed to have materialized, so the urgency seemed to go away.

I still have a few mild steel ones left (from the last (ever!) batch JP made).
I have 3 finished versions and 1 uncut version (needs more work on your part). Both may need some fine tuning with a file, the unfinished also needs some drilling & cutting.
See the old thread:

I send these out at ~cost - probably <$10 in USA - though I also ask you to make a paypal donation direct to JP - $5 for the unfinished ones and $10 for the finished ones.

I had the Same problem and repaired the cap by making a pawl out of the plastic from a handle of a windshield snow scraper. I figured it was durable enough for the weather (cold) and made it beefier than the stock part. Did it with a Dremel. Separated the cap with a small flat blade screwdriver.
