Brian,

Know how you feel- pleased your precious is OK. Similar thing happened to my eldest daughter about 3years ago- she was hit from behind by a 30 tonne lorry whilst she was stationary turning left and waiting for oncoming to clear. Fortunately she followed my instructions about not turning the steering wheel into the ongoing direction and the resulting punt shot her about 30m up the road but straight on. Had she not followed this practice and the steering wheel was pre-turned she would have hit oncoming.

Interestingly this was in her Kia Sorento- I figured[assumed?] it would be totalled but in fact the chassis was not bent at all and it needed a new tail gate and accessories.

The 928 is incredibly strong [as I know only too well after losing my 90 S4] and yes it hurts mentally especially if you have pristine example, but even if it is a bit of a dog it is still "your dog".

You will be amazed at just how many spare parts there are on a "wreck" - but do ensure it is truly "totalled". I have seen a rear ended 928 GTS that looked as though it had "ridden its last" but in fact it was repaired surprisingly easily- but of course it had a higher residual so more to play with as it were. I guess the cut off point is when the compression damage reaches the drive train/rear suspension.

Wishing you a swift recovery ad back in a 928 ASAP!

Fred

Glad to hear that the 928 holds up to such a nasty accident...

I've actually never heard this advice before. That makes a lot of sense...

She actually listened to me and is in the habit of keeping her wheels straight ahead! I cringe to consider her being launched into oncoming traffic..... She is sore today but the doctor gave her a clean bill of health. Thanks again for the support, Rennlist is a place apart!

Are you allowed to post a pic of the E-type? It is a sort of forerunner of the 928 after all.

Rgds

A lot of people haven't heard that before. Watch turning traffic and see how many people have their wheels cranked over while waiting.

And, as Fred noted, what will happen if they get rear-ended?

I've known it to happen a couple times, one where the accident was on a fairly high speed road (posted 45, most traffic goes around 50) and the car that was hit was pushed into oncoming traffic. The driver of the car coming the other way got the worst of it, critically injured. All because someone was too impatient to wait to turn their wheels, and another wasn't paying attention to traffic.

Glad to hear your daughter is OK ... we all feel that way about our kids .. precious.

I was T boned by a hit and run driver two weeks ago ($8000 damage) luckily in my Toyota 4WD and not a precious 928.

I had horrible visions of what might have been if it had been my daughter in her Toyota Corolla. She told me just recently she might buy another car .. so I think I'll help her get something a bit more 'bulletproof'.

There are just too many lunatics on the road.

Glad that everyone is OK.

It might be a bit morbid, but am I the only one that would like to see how the 928 fared?

Glad your daughter's okay! I remember reading a post where someone referenced a news article about an S4 or GTS being in a horrific accident and the occupants walked away I believe injury free thanks to the rugged built 928.

Amazing car indeed.

And do please forgive me for this as my second thought about the post was "I have an early '86, I wonder if he'll sell me parts" >_< Bad 928 owner thoughts!

The most important thing is that your daughter is fine.
Hope the other driver's ok too.

Even if this is an awful situation, the car can still be replace.
We put a lot of time and $ in our car but at the end, there just cars.

Good to see (again) that the 928 is a very strong car.

I hope that she'll have the chance to driver another 928 soon.

Glad your daughter is ok, and that the 928 helped in that.

IIRC, there is/was some organization that tracks brands/types of vehicles involved in a traffic fatality in North America, and the 928 didn't have it's first death until around 2010. So far as I've heard it has only been that one. Mind you I've never personally investigated these claims, and my memory may be somewhat off, but....
