Default Samanthas 1985 Euro 5 speed engine refresh, update ,Running

Back in 2009 or so I was looking at this Blue Euro 5 speed no sunroof car,
I was interested in buying it and the price was pretty high 6500.00 LOL.
I missed out by a few hours as someone else had responded before I did.

My how times have changed, fast forward to 2016 and here is the same car,
it looks great and the interior is beautiful, nice touches abound , and the price is higher.

Anyway starting the engine provides a big plume of sweet clouds of white smoke, so its head gasket time ,
the engine looked pretty good,
but there are too many different colors swimming around in the engine bay, so I will do my best to refresh this.

I am not sure about what color I will go with but its still in the noodle stage.

When I pulled the plugs number 5 and 6 holes had coolant in the bores, I hope the block is still in good shape.

So I will document the repair so this fine machine can have some history, who knows,
maybe I will hang on to this beauty even though it has a 5 speed and no sunroof.

Someone added a new PS pressure line and it was haphazardly routed so the steering coupler rubs the hose enough to have the cords showing

Looks like you have your work cut out for you, in that engine bay. Those are some bazaar color combinations.

Nice looking car, though

Classic grey interior in an 85? That's an interesting upgrade!

The PO had a great sense of humour, is the voltmeter stuck in the middle?

I like the Kandy red. Purple, not so much.

Let the 4 letter words begin...

I had no idea a non running Euro would bring so much. Hope you get her back up and running quickly. Head gaskets are not fun.

Well i got the heads off,
one day a piece ,
some of the head nuts were stubborn so some careful heating and PB blaster and a big bar got them off.
The passenger side pistons look original and the driver side look different,
I did not take any pictures yet ,
I will have more time tomorrow..
it was evident where the coolant leaks were,
as the fire ring had corrosion adjacent to it.

The head gaskets were already replaced atleast once in this engines life.
It could have been caused by draining the block and leaving the coolant level low thus exposing the top edges of the gaskets.
The bores all look OK though there are a few small scratches in 5, 6 bores,
and some ring staining in 6, 7
Pictures to follow.
I decided to paint the intake in Blue vein all the other parts are going to silver.

Paint the intake stock color, Stan. If you are planning to sell at the end will appeal to a LOT more people if stock appearance. Just my 2 cents. The more 'stock' a car appears the more it will be worth at sale.

Alex you might have a point that I need to listen too
A nice silver would probably be the best choice,
though I have liked a few of the gray intake pictures

Also prefers stock silver in the old intakes and engine parts.

If you plan to keep it, make it the color you want. If you plan to sell it, I'd leave the crazy colors and let the new owner decide what he /she wants to do. I wouldn't have been a fan of the purple either, but all together as shown in the pic you provided, it looks kinda good, and I think I do like it.
Very distinctive, a one-off, and a good conversation starter.

Did you end up leaving the engine in the car when you pulled the heads?
