buccicone: ahem...well, dirty secret. No garage. The photo shows the Red Witch parked with my Explorer and my wife's Mustang at our other house. I was in the process of swapping vehicles. There is only room enough in the driveway at our current house for my wife's Equinox and one of my vehicles. As soon as I finish a repair project that is on jack stands, the Red Witch will move under the carport. Under an outdoor rated car cover.

And you might be surprised at how affordable an older Cayenne can be.
Maintenance costs are still going to be on par with a high end luxury SUV, but acquisition costs are surprisingly reasonable.

I have never thought about a Cayenne before. Sounds like a 928 version of an SUV: reasonable purchase price, high maintenance costs...

So I started skimming through the Cayenne forum, learned a bit about what to look for and avoid, all that stuff (you know, just like you did on here).
It took about 6 months of casual looking, mainly checking AutoTrader & Carsdot every few days. I was willing to go a reasonable distance (one day of travel each way), but ended up finding one about 5 miles from my house. One owner, dealer serviced, full records. Had it inspected (again like a 928, a good PPI is essential) and got it.
The 955 Turbos (04-06) can be found for well under $20k. It will be a 10-12 year old car with around 100k miles on it, but just like the 928, 100k miles is a fraction of what they can go. And not being 30+ years old, a lot of the typical 928 issues simply aren't there.
There are a number of "known issues", but like the 928, most can be done by a halfway competent DIY'er.
And just like the 928, it's an amazing car, very comfortable and capable of covering long distances at good speeds.

Hmmmm...very good to know. I am not in the market for another SUV right now, as my Explorer is still going quite strong. However, this will be food for thought when the time comes.
