Default High Pressure PS Line Removal?

Ok so I have the high pressure power steering line disconnected at the pump, rack and center of the rack. I can move it about a bit but I can't get it passed heat shield from the exhaust header and some other shield just below it. It is at the metal part of the line where it goes up from the rack to the pump near the starter motor. Any tips?

Its a right hand drive s4 1990.

When the hose burst I initially said I was going to get the garage to do this job. Oh how I wish I hadn't changed my mind. Rolling around on the ground getting covered in atf is not much fun at all.

At the top right of the picture you can see the shiny ps line. The lip of that shield and the other shield up above out of view prevent me pulling the line loose.

I've given up for the night.

Mike what condition are the engine mounts? If they are collapsed then it cuts down on room to manoeuvre. I changed my PS line soon after installing new mounts. and it was easy to free the line.

There is a location clamp half way between the tack and the top of the fender, have you removed it?

Yup the clamp is removed.

Motor mounts are probably original. So that being the case can I jack the engine? If so how best to do that? Thinking a plank of wood under the sump and then jacking up by the sump. Is there a better spot?

Either undo the 8 engine mount bolts a bit, or just place a piece of wood under the sump to protect it and jack up the engine a bit to give you the needed space.

Ok, jacked up the engine and got it out. It was still a pain to get out though. I'm sure getting it back in again is going to be fun.

Wilst I have the car jacked up I used the opportunity to get rid of the air pump which has been disconnected for a while. I'm also going to try and replace the bearing on my air con. Got the cover plate off but need a circlip spreading tool to get the clutch off. I cut the ac belt about 6 months ago as it sounded like a hamster wheel under the bonnet.
