86.5 5 speed up out of reach!

I have quite a bit, and in traffic, on the highway at speed, etc. I may drive it home before shipping, but I can't risk a windshield chip, someone not paying attention, etc.

This is exactly what I am saying! You cannot risk it now, and I cannot risk it for later. I will not accept any damage or repairs to this body. How many 5 speeds left in the US?

Thank you, the body is also flawless without a single imperfection. I rescued this car from a public school auction last summer. Original owner cared extremely well then donated to the gas engine class at a school 10 miles from my home. It was meant to be. They did not want to study it and I learned from a friend it was in the public auction.

The vinyl is left over from the skate park and half pipe in there. I was sure happy when I got the go ahead to get rid of it. Cheap wall covering and adds color.

What I see is people wanting and paying for parts that others were throwing away a couple years ago. The 86.5 is completely original except for the ignition wires. They are NLA so I am now willing to pay a premium for a new set. I bet if we took a poll as to who is contemplating restoring their 928 to original we might be surprised. I would not consider restoring my 88. I would value my 86.5 somewhere in the $35,000-$40,000 at this point. I would not attempt to get it on Renn but I will definitely get it off the streets. Original adds the $15,000-$20,000 in my view. You might say then why don't I sell it? Because I would never find another in this condition.

Absolutely beautiful car!
but I can't help thinking of the wisdom of Napoli's quote
"Not putting miles on your car to keep it fresher for the next owner is like not making love to your girlfriend so she'll be fresher for her next boyfriend"
If you've got it, savor it.
No one guarantees you today, tomorrow, or next week... enjoy what you have today... things happen...
Two months after I bought my car, one of my oldest best friends was diagnosed with cancer out of the blue...he passed away just a few weeks later. He never got the chance to do many of the things he was putting off "until later".
Don't have something happen and then regret all of the beautiful days and occasions you could have enjoyed something you loved that you will never be able to experience again.

I have been driving 928's since my first 1978 in 1982. I have done everything imaginable legal and illegal in that time in a 928. No one has me beat on this subject! Thanks for the kind thoughts though. I will preserve this 86.5 928 and may the last one win!

I've put 10,000 miles on my car since I bought it last spring. Of course 1,500 miles of that was driving it from LA to Dallas after I bought it and another 1,000 on driving to my Mom's funeral and back, so I have no regrets on those miles...
Will I put 10,000 miles on it every year? Of course not!
But when I want a wonderful driving experience the 928 beckons to me.
I know I will have many "smiles with the miles".
When I drive my 928, I make sure the weather is beautiful and the roads are nice and empty so I can savor the miles to the fullest!
All other miles (such as errands, commuting back and forth to work, aka "beater miles") go on my SUV. If an accident or something happens or I have a miserable day in traffic it all goes on the beater car.
My baby stays nice and fresh so she can enjoy her time in the wild to the fullest...
Long drives out in the countryside on empty roads are where this car shines and what it was made for...
"chocolate miles"
