86.5 5 speed up out of reach!

I've put 10,000 miles on my car since I bought it last spring. Of course 1,500 miles of that was driving it from LA to Dallas after I bought it and another 1,000 on driving to my Mom's funeral and back, so I have no regrets on those miles...
Will I put 10,000 miles on it every year? Of course not!
But when I want a wonderful driving experience the 928 beckons to me.
I know I will have many "smiles with the miles".
When I drive my 928, I make sure the weather is beautiful and the roads are nice and empty so I can savor the miles to the fullest!
All other miles (such as errands, commuting back and forth to work, aka "beater miles") go on my SUV. If an accident or something happens or I have a miserable day in traffic it all goes on the beater car.
My baby stays nice and fresh so she can enjoy her time in the wild to the fullest...
Long drives out in the countryside on empty roads are where this car shines and what it was made for...
"chocolate miles"

I get "supercedar's" mindset.
I have a 78, in pretty nice shape, that if I never drive, so be it. I drive my 84 and never give two hoots about a stone chip or such...because that stuff just comes with the territory. Sure, I keep it relatively nice and surely don't intentionally diminish it worth...but it's just a "driver" and has some minor issues...and probably won't be worth much at the end of the day.
The 78 is going to become better than when l bought it, hopefully, once I retire and spend all my time and money (please don't tell my wife this tidbit of information) restoring. And yes, I could die before that happens...but I won't know the difference...I'll be dead...and things like this "probably" won't bother me...since this will be the least of my immediate problems...lol.
If someone has a very fine example, and wants to exercise it very little, more power to them.
Brian.

I just bought an 86 5.0L RHD. One of 30 made apparently. I doubt there would be 30 still going. I'd reckon there may be 10 left. Mine has 206,000kms on it and it needs rescuing. I can understand your reservations about driving it.

I came across this thread today and seemed a good reason for you to reconsider your thoughts on 'saving' your nice 928.

Guy's, I bought my S4 with 130,000 and now a bit over 200,000. Believe me I am not saving anything but a nice example of a 86.5. But I do agree we are all dying.
Thank you for all the opinions and thoughts.
Stay well and enjoy your 928.

I would value my 86.5 somewhere in the $35,000-$40,000 at this point. I would not attempt to get it on Renn but I will definitely get it off the streets. Original adds the $15,000-$20,000 in my view. You might say then why don't I sell it? Because I would never find another in this condition.
by the way, seems like a very nice '86.5 928 on eBay right now for $29k OBO from a dealer with 49k miles
good luck

[QUOTE=ChristianR;13251989]if you can sell it for $35 plus K, than you better take it, button the same breath you say you would never sell it for $40-50k because you never replace, doesn't make any sense to me, however, its your car, do as you please but i think you are in a dream if you really think it is worth $50k or ever will be

good luck[/QUOTE Did you miss the one that just sold for $52,000? Also I did not say it is worth 50,000 but that I give it 15-20K of the 35k because it is original. Anybody can restore anything they wish. Original happens only once.
The 86.5 you mention on Ebay is nice, however I would not accept the rub strips, they are like condoms to me. You have to know where you are parking! Lets see what it goes for!

A few years ago I made a decision to just enjoy the hell out of the 86.5 rather then ice it.
I just cracked 100k on the odometer a few months prior to BC's sale. Now I'm feeling a little remorse...
