The purpose of that wire is to let potential buyers know that the car has been worked on by a hack and that there are more problems that you cannot see.
Seriously: no way to know until someone who knows 928s PPIs it. But that wire is BIG and RED and not factory. Thus a red flag.
Since you are looking for an ‘87+ Auto you need to educate yourself on thrust bearing (TBF) and crank end-play measurement.
I was wondering too. It seems to be a 2 gauge cable. My 2¢ guess is a heavy gauge cable connected directly to the pos battery terminal so that battery charges and jump starts can safely and easily be done from the engine bay...specially for folks more comfortable around the fenders of Camaros.

And no doubt wrapped around the exhaust manifold on its way 'down under.'
^^^Not the best presentation in the world. Shows what bad photography can do - look at the lead pic. That wall the car sits in front of washes out half the hood. The paint looks bad too - lots or road rash. Overall, fairly unremarkable car. Will be interesting to see what it goes for in this dynamic market.
1990 s4 . 97k miles. It was originally black and tan. I applied SEM to the seats to dye the leather black, seven years ago. I've owned it about 10 years and done lots of work to it. Removing the engine to do motor mounts, intake refresh fuel lines , injectors and most sensors. Last month I had the transmission pulled to do the Black Sea Torque tube and upgraded shaft & bearings. New ac compressor, starter, rebuilt the original alternator. I have a quite a few parts and kept almost all the originals just in case.
No, those are the original seats. I redyed them some time ago using SEM products. It has held up surprisingly well. There is one spot where it has bubbled on the passenger seat. But over all there in great shape.
I agree. Those are the same pictures that were on Craigslist for the longest time for the past 6 months or more. Entire ad is: "How not to get yourself the most dollars in an auction".
15 min with an iPhone after a quickie car wash and some engine dusting would've attracted and kept followers for that auction with increased chances of bidders.
It's a shame, because I feel that the car has potential to break $10k for an '82 auto.
Hopefully, there is enough recent rise in 928 interests to get there still!
Fingers crossed.

Sitting on the inside it looks like an S4, but the outside looks like a pre 87 S. Wonder what under the hood?
Might be an 86.5
Did the 86.5 get newer seats, door cards, and steering wheel? I thought it was mainly brakes and suspension.
I'm still guessing this is old body style with newer parts in the interior. I'd go look at it if it wasn't a Rog-o-box. ALready have one of those (and like it). My next 928 will be 5 speed and possibly old body style. I like variety.

I thought I recognized those pics. I bet if I checked it was posted here back then. And agree, this car is not presented well, but I do like that color and the interior is nice.
