928s for Sale

Burning Brakes
BaT bids are binding in so much as they collect a 5% non-refundable deposit from the winning bidder's credit card immediately upon placing the bid.
PPIs are to be performed PRIOR to auction ending.
I wasn't "banned" off BaT. But they are monitoring my comments.
I never said the seller was dishonest. The seller is a wholesale dealer whose prices are commensurate as such.
It is up to each perspective buyer to do their own homework.
I'd just hate to see someone bid this up to 30 or 40k only up only to find out it requires several thousand dollars in repairs.
Another Rennlister saved me from making the same mistake on BaT before and I was significantly grateful for the heads up.

Jeff, your moral obligation to fellow buyers are great, but you're conflicted with also your not wanting to disparage the car in any way. With you having plenty of good history on BaT (# of thumbs up) and your 928 knowledge (that may be known to any potential bidders), a simple, "I saw the car in detail and drove it like it should be driven. Nice car and good luck with the auction", would tell A LOT without risking being a party pooper for the seller.
If I was a potential bidder and knowing you're interested enough in this car to see and drive it but no bids, I would hesitate. That would be the extend to my obligation to both seller and bidders.

Wow! I am surprised and happy that my opinion on its needs and estimate to the value of this car could've hit anywhere close to Dave's eval. Maybe I am starting learn about this car!

Based upon the inspection report it *needs badly* an intake refresh. It could - possibly - use an engine-out total reseal. $5k to $20k+ depending upon which and how far 'beautification' is taken.
The hard-shifting is caused by no vacuum to the shift modulator. If this condition has been allowed to exist for a couple of hundred shifts then the driveshaft is probably ready to snap.
Let's also not forget that a crank end-play check is absolutely required before throwing down good money.
Wishful thinking at best.
Regardless, it *is* a nice Auto GTS. Based upon how they've been selling lately, this is a good buy under ~30k even if it needs $20k of work.

My Weissach #155's buyer handed over $35k (with BaT fees) without even being in the same country or anyone helping him to see it. I have Rennlist community and of course Stan to thank for their support through its auction :-)

BAT bids are non-binding. Surely the high bidder will get a real PPI before handing over cash.
I think the real question here is how this 'ppi' was performed. Was he posing as a serious buyer? Did he disclose to the seller that he would be posting his pictures online? Did he also disclose that he would be characterizing the seller as dishonest based on these limited pictures? Did he also disclose to the seller that he was banned off BAT? Hmmm

1980 Porsche 928 Automatic
odometer states 87k miles, The cluster was pulled in 2001 and is marked by shop. I replaced the odometer gear recently but it was only broken for less than 100 miles or so.
This is not a euro spec s model. According to original owner the dealership added the s package spoilers and wheels when new..
Special order paint Black metallic. Paint is in nice condition considering its age. The body is also in nice condition but does have a small shallow door ding on right door. The front spoiler is also broken
The interior is in good shape. Both front seats show some wear. The passenger seat has somewhat flattened pleats. No major holes or rips.
Mechanically the car runs and shifts very well. I recently installed a new master cylinder and booster.
Two electrical problems. The right tail lamp stays lighted when ignition switch is on whether the lights or on or not and the battery will drain unless the interior light fuse is pulled. No other known problems with the car.
4 new tires also come with the sale. (Hankook)
$10,000

Hoi, I believe this was on eBay last week for a Buy-it-now of $39,000. Reduce it another $9K, I'll buy it.

This one needs the intake refresh re-done (at minimum) to put it back together right. (If what you can see is Frankenstein'd what does that portend for that which you cannot?)
Yet... any GT that has a running engine and working gearbox has a minimum value of about $10k IMO.

Here's what I wrote in that thread. Damn, I didn't hold back at all
Who knows if that one actually has any 'real' GT bits left. A breaker would want to check codes on engine and transaxle and if the PSD bits are still in the left-rear.
Saw this thread the first time'round. That GT is a steaming puddle of warm diarrhea. There are so many obvious things wrong with it that any sane 928-savy person has to assume that the non-obvious things wrong with it are bad and numerous.
Kill it and send it to the organ banks. It has no use other than to bring misery and poverty.
