I hope is not VanD. This 5 spd car i think was posted on Facebook and may have had a bad head gasket. Don't want to bring it up in the classifieds in case I was wrong. But I was pretty sure.

I am going to look at it. This concerns me. I was definitely going to look at the coolant and oil and pull the plugs anyway. Can you get more information?

Thanks.

Looks like taubenblau or similar color over linen. You are flying over Saturday?

Car in question - Passenger fender damage and a missing headlight.

Yes, exactly, Taubenblau Metallic. The owner hit a deer with the lights up three years ago but hasn't had the time and money to repair and perform maintenance. It needs all the usual - intake refresh, timing belt, water pump, tires dry rotted.

Just wanted to clean this up. Last night i received full payment for the car. InDaHills came through in the end.

Excellent, and thanks for closing the loop on that, so that we don't all swarm all over him each time he jumps on BaT. He still screwed Alex though (but Alex ended up with more $ anyway).

Ha! That's great. I wonder if the public shaming on BaT helped? Thanks for the follow-up.

And where do we have the info that indicates that it may need a headgasket? I have not seen that. Owner is aware of the need for TB. Will you be attempting a drive home?

The only info is this comment by Hoi above. The owner says it runs and drives fine.
TB & WP was last replaced about 6 years ago, I will inspect the belt and condition of fuel lines and if all looks well, nurse it home. I will pick up a fire extinguisher just in case, I know all the risks.

Sorry for the late response, it's been crazy at work for the past week. Like I mentioned, I wasn't really sure. I remembered seeing a nice S4 in same color combo and CHEAP, and the facebook ad mentioned that it needed new "head work". I thought it was the same car, bc who wouldn't jump all over this car with such a low asking price for a 5 spd S4? I may had been wrong.
hoi

UPDATE: the other car does indeed have the same color but it's an auto, not 5 spd! Buy with confidence and sorry for the confusion.

Why does the term "flipper" seem to have negative connotation?
If a buyer likes a car a flipper has for sale, and agrees on a price with said flipper/seller, why is the flipper/seller somehow dissed by parties not involved?
Well, the 'typical' flipper is basically an unlicensed used car dealer. It's not so much a "time" factor, as a what they do when they buy and sell.

They buy with the intent to sell, and sell quickly. They usually don't transfer the title into their own name, they give the title to the buyer with the previous owner's name still on it. So there's no legal proof that they ever owned the car.
They often buy and sell more cars than are legally allowed for someone without a dealer's license (which they get around by not legally 'owning' the car).
Technically illegal (tax evasion is one crime, there are others that are more in the "technicality" category).

In places like California, where there are legal requirements & obligation on the sellers, the flipper evades those by never legally "owning" the car. This leaves the buyer with limited options if the car has problems.

I don't know exactly where the line between a "flipper" and a "Buy it fix it up and sell it" like Dave Z is.

But I really wouldn't consider him a flipper.
