That's a pretty fair looking S4 to be getting parted out ...

Any idea the history here? My guess is the shop pulled the water pump and found that the impeller had eaten into the block. Perhaps the PO heard the price of the factory pump and had a cardiac event.

This is how I bought my 968 a few years back. The seller had it in the shop for TB/WP. It got halfway there, and the price quote came back. The seller paid off the shop, towed it home, and there it sat for 6 years.

If I didn't have an 85 to do this summer, I'd grab this up in a second. Go do a leakdown test with the crank at 45* and as long as there are no bent valves, winner winner chicken dinner.

What a shame! Could be a great purchase for an adventurous soul. Worse case, can recoup the cost on parts.

This car you have to look at it as what is it worth without an engine and transmission. Neither can be tested before purchase. However the body looks ok and the interior is decent. You could buy it put on a timing belt and pump and fire it up. Or everything could be toast it's a gamble. Personally I think the price is optimistic.

That does look too nice to part out. What a shame.

Well, good thing it's not closer to me. If it was within 500 miles, I'd head over with my car hauler and grab it up. Someone in mid-Atlantic should be all over this depending on int condition. Looks like the int needs a fair amount of work to get it back to serviceable shape. Also judging by the batt pic it's gonna need some elec tasks done.

Oh well, I'd like to save it but I have two cars up on stands now, and got to get them working first. If he would wait 2 months, I'd be all over it, but no - he's in a big fat rush to scrap what could be a nice car. Grrrrrrrrr

I saw this same car at the Hendrick Porsche dealership in Charlotte approx. 1 1/2 years ago, I was over there to pick up some ordered parts, saw this car sitting behind fence and inquired about it. It looked like it does in this ad, all the loose parts from timing belt change where inside car, disassembled. Interior looked fairly decent, except for driver bolster wear, and dash warped a little. Body and paint looked pretty good except for a couple small rust blisters under quarter windows. I asked the service manager about it, he told me the owner brought it in for timing belt, front seals, water pump. Then later found out he was battling cancer, and the car became low on priority list. I was thinking seriously about trying to buy it, but figured I had enough projects already. Im curious who got and for how much? Flipping it to make some $$$

Good info Lou, thanks for filling in. Sad about the owner situation.

Still think this has some upside for a DIY guy like me. If it's still avail in July, I'll grab it up.

I put my eyes on the car this past weekend. In my opinion, its rough. Engine has been apart for three years, with a rust starting to form on some parts from sitting. I was willing to go $2500 but the seller was not interested in selling below asking price due to amount of interest. He also understands car is worth more parted...which he is correct. It had some paint work on passenger side...not done correctly as there is corrosion under the paint on the front fender. Also rubber it toast around windows. My biggest concern is buying and the motor being toast.....which suppose to not be the case.

Lou is correct....it sat at dealer for sometime. Owner recently died....so I think the seller bought from previous owners child.
