Default S3 Cam Chain Tensioner Re-Assembly

From Kevin in Atlanta's thread a few years ago via Hilton, is this the correct orientation of the inner spring assembly in the S3 chain tensioner?

I imagine the nipple end of the piston in that spring, as a hole it fits in..in one side or the other...ya?

OK so it turns out one of the tensioners is missing the fitting that goes at the top of the spring as pictured below. I can't imagine this piece is available separately so has anyone who has upgraded to the S4 part kept their old tensioner around by any chance?

Because the pads still look great? Granted I'm way past the point of adding up all my spending on this project but I'd like to avoid throwing another several hundred dollars at it if I can avoid it.
