Seth,

She is beautiful. Good luck on the sorting. As a fellow new owner, I still have THAT grin.

I just heard from the repair facility regarding flexplate migration:
Front clamp moved 4mm when released.
Crankshaft end play was 0.14mm.

Great looking car in the absolute, but especially so given the miles. Prior owner has earned his place in heaven! Congrats on a great find!

Give serious consideration to driving it out to the Third Coast event this year. It will give you an opportunity to learn a lot more about your car, plus have a really fun weekend with a lot of great people.

The Forgotten On: Thanks, and I will see about a replacement cross brace. Not sure if I want to go stock or aftermarket.

The Deputy: Thanks! I had been looking, but was not expecting to buy anything anytime soon. This one checked most of the right boxes, so I jumped.

voskian: Thanks! I am super pleased. Condition and price were better than I expected. From my research, I believe that mileage is not as critical with a 928, its how it is taken care of.

M. Requin: Thanks, I appreciate your support! More pics to come. No bail, though the missus is quite aghast at the amount of money I have spent.

linderpat: Thanks! I am deleriously happy with this 928. I would love to meet you and show it off. Besides, this is all your fault.

OTR18WHEELER: Thanks Farris, I genuinely appreciate that!

bureau13: Thanks for the welcome! A 1986.5 928S is what I have wanted, I was lucky enough to find one.

Mrmerlin: Thank you! Stan, I very much appreciate your opinion! The PO was an enthusiast and took care of this car. The service records show a number of maintenace, repair, and upgrade items. I plan on driving the wheels off her. I bought a 928 to DRIVE!

hlee96: Hoi, thank you! I am very much looking forward to road tripping my 928.

Itoolio: I am very smitten with the colors. Initially, the red highlights in the interior didn't do much for me. They are growing on me. And, I am now swimming with the fishes. Sharks, that is...

soontobered84: Thanks! I too have never seen intake plenum highlights like this before. I REALLY like them.
Yes, I will get the jump post cover...

docmirror: Thanks! I am really starting to get used to having a red Porsche. I like it! I will very much be posting progress and such on Rennlist, as well as the 928 OC forum.

RFJ: Thank you!

Saucy: Yep, a brick can't knock this grin off.

hwyengr: Good to know, I don't have the WSM yet to check the values. Thanks!

oldfrat: Thank you! I am still marvelling that I was able to find one so nice, for reasonable money, that didn't have any black holes in it. PO took very good care of this car. I will post results of the PPI, there wasn't much.
I will look into Third Coast, but I make no promises. Between a trip earlier this year, going to get the Red Witch, and SITM, my vacation at work is getting a little thin...

RedRaider1: Thanks for the welcome!

Jadz928: Thank you! Jim, I appreciate your opinion! The Red Witch is not an OB like you and I discussed last year, but I am quite pleased.

YT1: Thank you!

I had an E-mail from Auto Assets awaiting me when I awoke this evening. They have ordered the bulk of the parts necessary. The transmission cooling line pressure hose has to come out of Germany, and has at least a week lead time. I really hope it arrives in time for the May 6 pick up...

Once teardown begins, I hope to win a friendly argument with the service writer. As part of the full TB job, they want to install a NEW tensioner. For $1200. YIKES! I have gotten him to agree to consider refurbishing the existing tensioner if conditions warrant.

I am not complaining about the price of parts. Nowhere has it been written that any part of a 928 is cheap. I am just trying to be realistic about it all.

Opinion question: The Red Witch has an RMB. Looking at photos, and a prior sale posting, she also has no catalytic converters. So, the exhaust is pretty much manifolds, pipes, and more pipes. Has anyone run a set up like this? Might I need to fit a resonator or something? I am concerned about droning on the highway. Granted, I need to drive her and see what I think.

Unless you want to remain stock, might want to consider a PKTensioner....

You already have the updated tensioner. You're fine, also a few of us are weary of the PKT on the 32V cars, it removes the belt tension light.

No need for any tensioner, you have an updated unit in there. Just inspect the roller bearing. Also be careful about which water pump is installed if you are changing it out. Frankly, I would consider leaving the WP in there if it's not that old, and not leaking or making bearing noise.

Maybe contact Roger at 928sRUS.com about parts if you are concerned on prices and delivery.

Drive the car for a week or two before deciding on making changes to the exhaust.

So glad that worked out Seth! Congrats! BTW, I have two cross braces at the house. One stock, and one of unknown origin. You're more than welcome to one of your choosing as a free "928 warming" gift. LOL. I'll see if I can get some pics tonight and PM you.

Allowable play is .11-.30, so it's about as good as brand spankin' new.

You should get a set of the CDs from Roger, but in the meanwhile you can download the whole WSM from www.ligeti.com/928
