Default Inspired by Bluemax, unforgettable Pascha....

In the mid 80s, I saw an old 928 in a shop. Don't remember what color it was but I still remember the funky interior. I now know it was a pascha interior. In looking at old 928s I came across Bluemax. What an incredible car!!! The cork leather, the Pascha, the blue color, it just works like a Picasso! Had a few questions: what color is bluemax? Is it a rare color? How rare are Pascha and cork cars? What is the market for early five speed cars now?

Thanks in advance....

Blumaxx is 'minervablau' or Minerva blue. The color is relatively rare but not 'wow, never seen one rare'...the cars come up occasionally. Same with the Pascha cars - they were relatively common, I would say 1/4 of the early cars had Pascha interiors - cork with black/tan checker such as Blumaxx is even rarer.. problem is, Pascha deteriorates rapidly with sun exposure and with time. So an original, functional, Pascha interior in a rare color such as Ed Rice's Blumaxx or my '81 Euro Zinmetallic car is a very rare thing to behold. Often the Pascha cars would be 'improved' with leather or other cloth interiors (my Blumaxx '78 cork Pascha car now has alcantera inserts Replaced by a PO soon to have its original colors restored!). If you can find one in a rare color combo/interior buy it...you won't be sorry in the long run..

Default Distiguishing a pascha car....

Thanks for the info. How would a person distinguish a car that was original pascha but has been changed due to deterioration? I would love to pictures of your Minerva blue car....

Most restorers do not use pascha, since it is very hard to get. That said, I'm not sure if I could tell original from restored if someone like Rob Budd did the work (a well known 928 interior guy and very active in the community). Mine is original, and in excellent shape as far as the interior goes. Here's some pictures.

In case you were wondering, a car like Ed's is a unicorn, sought after by every 928 guy on the planet. an original paint, original interior unrestored car in the condition like his is in, is in a rarefied niche of the early 928's. A similar car in Europe (but honestly not as original, and it's '79, not a '78, but lower km's) is asking $99,000 EUROS!

If you get serious about getting one, I suggest you speak with Jim Doerr at 928 classics. He is the guru of the early cars and has multiple contact worldwide to find you a car. He's worth every penny as he manages to find cars for clients often below the current skyrocketing market. Also has a couple nice ones available or can restore one to your liking. Be patient and he'll find you a car.

Thanks for the kind words Alex, and I concur about Jim. He is the guy to help you find one. There are fewer left though, as Alex is cornering the market!

Oh, and the project being done here (https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...rrived-23.html) will put Blumaxx and just about every other one on the planet to shame (save possibly for Kermit itself). Read that thread from the start for a great education and primer on a proper resto.

Oh, I don't know about that- they're only original once! As much fun as the refurb process is, it makes you appreciate how special the ones that don't need refurbing are. The popularity of 'Survivor' cars and preservation classes at concours is a great thing as it helps everyone remember what the makers originally were trying to do.

Brian.

Ha Brian - when I bought Blumaxx in 2009, the original radio came with it, in a box, and the car had a crappy aftermarket head installed. At the time, thinking nothing of it, I sold that original radio for like $25 or so (some pretty cheap amount). Jim D called me right after I sold it but he was too late
Naturally, as the years went by, I realized how foolish it was to sell it in the first place. Also, I wish I had sold it to Jim since it was sold. Anyway, the lesson is 6 or 7 years ago, we were not necessarily thinking of preservation, and now we are. I drove it quite a bit and enjoyed the hell out of it. Funny how time changes attitude!

Default Pascha

Are you saying that once the pascha wears out most people switch to leather or vynil? I would think that given the popularity of these early cars owners would do everything possible to redo the pascha interiors. Is the new pascha fabric the same as the old one?

Fortunately Rob Budd carries IIRC 3 of the 4 pascha combinations: black & tan, black & blue, and black & white. Black & brown (top pic) is NLA and was in MY80. The bottom seat cushion began to unravel, patched it twice but was to far gone and had Rob redo in Black & tan (bottom pic) T

Default Seats look nice...

Do the pascha cars get some kind of identification on the vin/build numbers that verify that it is a Pascha car?

How expensive is it to redo the pascha seats and interior?

Thanks in advance.

The interior code will tell you if Pascha is original to car. You can get that info from Porsche on a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) . Of course, Porsche being Porsche, they will charge around $110 for the privilege of letting you know. Sometimes if you ask real nicely, they may let you know over the phone the paint code and interior code.... I found a link of said codes available here:

http://www.porsche.com/swiss/de/acce...farbtafeln928/

A full Pascha redo including Fronts and rears and door cards are around $3500, the price fluctuates daily believe it or not as the Dollar:Euro ratio and price of Pascha material from Germany fluctuates wildly as well.
