How far are you taking it down?
I'd suggest at minimum keeping the galvanizing intact.
Also suggest less work w/the DA.
You can go thru the primer with paint stripper. You can go thru the galvanizing w/a DA.
Either way, go easy on the layers. Anywhere there's filler, you have to take it down. Otherwise, consider whatever is least impact. Appears mostly very low impact so far, except the roof (which is often very bad).

Trying to get down to factory paint/primer only, further only if absolutely necessary.
We put the updated caddy adaptors on today, they worked out great and are more secure. Piece of mind goes a long way!
With that most recent closeup, I wanted to make a comment,
The rough body protectant on the bottom of the early body - I don't see it. I took it ff my 78 as well, since I went to metal. But to be period correct, I assume it would have to be replaced. If it *is* there, it is very difficult to get paint off without taking it off.
Talking to the guy at the paint shop today (I dropped off the rest of the body pieces), his take was that the car had been painted twice- once at the factory, and again at some point, but there was no body repair anywhere. The textured stuff along the rockers was indeed gone, plan is to replace it now.
The coverage in the wheelwells and engine compartment is so spotty, it'll be interesting to see how they replicate it. No paint underneath, leaving it as is.

Are you using the same painter as Dan used for the Turq? Just wondering - it sure turned out nice.
Different painter- The Turq was done by Ron Ruff at European Collision Center in Downey. Turq got a bunch of body work in addition to paint, with the sunroof delete and GTS quarters. Minerva is at a place in Santa Ana, probably shouldn't talk about who they are 'til we see how they did. But they come highly recommended and I was impressed with their progress already.

There is a product made by wurth that replicates the textured areas very accurately. If you're interested, I will post info tomorrow.
Really easy to use. I had to blend in on the inner rear wheel wells where the PO drove for quite a while with rear wheels that had wrong offsets, rubbed pretty severely and wore away the textured undercoating right down to bare metal.... Repaired and painted to where it was undetectable.
Today, paint shop was working away on hood and bumper cover prep. Front bumper is a bit ragged, and I am surmising it is not original to the car as is the rear with the factory handwritten "chalk" dates.
If Mr. Anderson can come through with a suitable replacement, we will probably ditch the unoriginal one that came with the car.
