Good 928 Shop in San Diego Area
Ok so after literally a decade of research and much lurking here, I finally took the plunge and bought a 1988 928 S4 over the weekend. The car is everything I had hoped for and so much more. I can't tell you how happy I am with it.
But it is a 928 and going in, I knew there were I few things I would need to do to it. It needs a full ignition service (plugs, wires, caps and rotors) like yesterday. And in the not too distant future there's a timing belt, water pump, engine mount, ball joint service / replacement coming. There will also be some new switches and bulb / fuse / relay replacements thrown in there too. But like I said, I knew all that going in and I'm actually looking forward to getting under the car and going to work on it.
Which brings me to my question. The Torque Tube seems to making some noise. By that I mean there's noise and it seems to be from the TT. Having done my research on these cars, I know that any noise from the TT is of grave concern (grave concern? - is there any other kind?).
What I'd like is to take it to a really good 928 expert who can take a look and tell me what's going on now. If it requires work, I happy to pay for it as long as I'm confident they know what they're doing. After that, I'm perfectly confident in my own ability to monitor and deal with the TT. I just want to make sure I'm starting from known good.
So can anyone recommend a 928 shop in the San Diego area that has experience and can be trusted in the TT department?

First, welcome!!!
Can't help you on your local search, but surely someone here knows,.
I can suggest priority list.
TBELT if unknown, and do ignition parts sane time.
Have the flex plate ckecked as in crank end play w/TT analysis.
Then address all the little stuff

Thank you!
I've got 10k before I need to do the belt but the ignition should have been a while ago. I realize the efficiency gain of doing those at the same time but I want to spread out the effort and cost.

Interestingly enough, a whole bunch of San Diego 928s come up here and the owners take the train home.

Rest assurred, there are no 928 mechanics hiding in your area.....we would have found them long ago, if that was the case.

I see this has been straightened out.
Consider Greg an extension of San Diego.
There is no one I trust down here. Oh there are mechanics. But not men I trust like Greg or the people that work at his shop.

Call Mark Sawaya at Performance Porsche on Fairmount Ave. Before moving to the Bay Area in 2008, he serviced two of my Dad's 928s since 1990. Very good work at a reasonable price. Mark and I also go way back when he serviced my 944s.

IMO, any rarer cars needs a specialist - no one else sees enough of them to really know what to look for and do. The short drive from San Diego will buy you the knowledge of a job done well, and many potential problems nipped in the bud.
These cars were never intended to be cheap to own, but they get a whole lot more expensive if you pay for someone to get experience on yours.

I'd really love to be able to have someone local, down there, that I could sent my customers to for the minor things.
It's been really scary, up to this point!
