Looking at the pictures, they were in Turkey on 20/21st Nov, so they should have finished the whole journey by now. Hopefully they're just behind on their updates and have been home enjoying Xmas.

[QUOTE=jcorenman;9153205]There are some new photos on the website. Some additional photos on the Iran page-- including a visit to the local Porsche dealer, and the "Car Museum of the Shah of Iran" (!) and a '79 928 with 29km on the clock (!!). Black & Black+Pascha, very cool.

Jim,

Indeed it is -ho ho!

I was sat in the cockpit of this 928 as I was interviewed for television [I think] about the 928, its history in the other vehicles in general about 6 years ago. The car along with quite a collection of other vehicles from the Shah and his predecessor's was on open air display in the Garden's of Zaffaranieh Palace [now a big museum] in North Tehran. They told me at the time that they were going to open a permanent museum in the near future- obviously they have.

I even gave the museum's curator the names of our parts suppliers! The car, a three speed automatic, was a special delivery to the Shah and I believe it was one of the very first 928's delivered in 1978. It was in generally nice original condition. I asked if I could take it for a spin round the Palace gardens but they politely declined!

Oh, and before any international experts challenge me on the vintage of the car, just remember the Shah hightailed it out of Iran in January 1979- I had to bail out the day before!

Regards

Fred

Reminds me of the 2 actors that went 'Long Way Round' the world on BMW GT1200's and then 'Long Way Down' to tip of Africa. That is epic..........this is cool, wild, crazy and with style.

Anyone have any updates on this? The last updated individual page is Croatia. And the itinerary originally included going through India, but it appears to have been changed. Hope they made it home...

Update: Philippe and his son Baudouin are back in France. We are planning on having dinner with them along with Michel (Froggy Shark) in Paris, late Sept. T

Very cool, thanks for the update. Got concerned about them heading through Iran! Have they updated the webpage at all?

I think this one of the coolest uses of a 928. I have a dream to do something similar with my son. I would like to drive from Detroit to the southern most point of South America. I think it would be an amazing journey.

My Dad and I had the same idea, except you can't drive from Panama into Colombia yet. No road.

I was sans 928 when this was happening and missed the whole thing. What a great and epic journey. I can't wait to hear about the sequel.
