Default So...Now I feel dirty. 911 'Welcome.'

Hello,

I should have known better. A supervisor at work got wind of my search for a 928. He told me there was someone I HAD to meet. He was a Porsche racing driver and a driving instructor.

This morning, he pigeonholed me into going to this guy's office. Supervisor heard he might have a set of Porsche service manuals for sale.

We cordially meet. Then he finds out I am a 928 guy. His nose all but crinkles up at me. Sigh. I get to spend the next 10 minutes looking at photos as he describes his race 911 and 930. He ended with the comment, "of course you won't be racing a 928."

On the upside, I will be buying a set of Porsche 928 service manuals from him...

Good story. And hey, the guy has 928 service manuals..... he is (or the manuals are) probably still in the closet.

I'd go back in late, late tonight and leave the guy a stinky steamer right in the middle of his desk.

But that's me.

You could also refer to his car as a 'lawn mower'.

Comparing to the 928, remind him you have 8 up front, while he gets only 6 in the back.

928 Owners are ".....a secret sect of quietly assured Porsche pragmatists who in near anonymity appreciate the prodigious, easy going prowess of the 928.

Given how few 928s ever see a track he is pretty accurate about his prediction. It was extremely rare for there to be another 928 at the track when I was there with the very brown 1980 for all those years . The most 928 race cars I ever saw at a track was three....and one of those blew up that day at Fontana !
It is one thing to be emotional about YOUR car another to be irrational. It is not like he was saying your kid is ugly The 928 is a tool no need for the owner to be one too. And the 928 is still the Rodney Dangerfield of Porsche cars.

LOL I love this.
It's like listening to 2 guys argue over whose supermodel trophy wife is the prettiest! ! !
I always like to fall back on the "he's a car guy" identifier.
Even though I wouldn't really like to have a lowrider or a monster diesel truck, they are still owned and adored by other "car guys". So it all becomes cool again for me at that point.
I would love a 911 AND a 928 (etc etc etc etc) but being a "car guy" doesn't mean I am a "money guy" ! ! !

All in fun!

A 911 owner and an instructor. Most instructors, and Porsche owners, are great guys. Then there are the ones who are adding "I'm an instructor" to their list of boasts. You wandered into one of those. No worries.

I have never ever cared much about what other people think about my cars. I buy them because I want them not because OTHER people want them.
Also remember most air-cooled 911 guys look down on 996 and 997 version 911s too "Hydrophobia" runs deep in that community !!

After getting a whiff of his attitude....you could have added that your wife drives a 993 Turbo!

Turn up the volume on your office PC and play this the next time the instructor walks by.

When he stops in and mentions something about 911 race videos, have this queued up:
