I've been considering going back to a more period correct rim style on my S3 when not at the track, but I am running GTS front brakes that are even a bit taller due to the adapter kit.
Anybody put stock 16" rims (Dish or Phone Dial) with Big Brakes up front? How was the clearance?

I've just tried a standard 16" manhole on my GTS .... it hits the caliper just as you start feeding it onto the studs ... not even close to fitting.

My 16" phone dials fit over the S4 brakes on my 79.

^^ S4 brakes no problems with 16" ... but you need minimum 17" for GTS.

Here's a pic of my 18s over GTS calipers. No way a 16 would clear. If you want something that looks period correct but clears the GTS calipers, check out thec3-piece phone dials that Jim Doerr at 928 Classics is making.

Ken, I have a pair of 16 phone dials sitting here if you want to test fit one.

Thanks! I may take you up on that in the near future, as I am going to need to borrow the Blink'r again at some point. However, based on above posts, I don't have high hopes for a fit.

That's what I was thinking, he could just drop down to S4 brakes if he really wants the classic wheels.

7x16 phones will not fit early S4 front brakes but might fit late calipers. In any case they are very close. Too close for factorys liking. That's probably why phone dials were dropped as an option in mid eighties.
