Smoking crack or a sign of things to come?
Pretty optimistic I think!

I'm siding with the crack. Nice, rare car; but it has over 120,000 miles on it if the ad is correct. Rims are not original either. All that being said, the car looks good! We will probably never know what it sells for; but I am thinking he won't get any calls at that price point. Maybe in a couple of years if the market keeps moving like it has been.

I've been drinking (shocker) and that made me laugh.
Hope he gets it.

Calling Adam - do you know the car? It does look good, and I hope the seller gets near the ask.

It will go on eBay in the spring, reserve will be near the 38k (27k usd).
Thanks for the laugh on the title.

Hagerty's valuation for a '88 s4 5-speed in "#2" condition is $28,600 USD. The "ask" on this car is not far off that. The real question of course is condition, and it is impossible to judge that from a few lousy pictures. It is certainly possible to maintain a car to a "#2" condition in spite of high miles, but it is neither cheap nor easy-- and takes a special kind of "crazy" (see e.g. "Minerva").
The seller references the Canadian PAVE scale, used by professional appraisers. They do not state that the car has been appraised so that could be just another seller's comment. Condition #2 on the PAVE scale is:
Here is Hagerty's definition of "#2":

#2 (+/-) = Very Good
An extremely presentable, well-operating vehicle, which upon very close inspection shows only the most minimal aging, wear, or damage. Vehicles in this classification would be “ brand new”, “seldom driver”, or “trailered”.

#2 vehicles could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 vehicles that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, but will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass and finishes will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, no unusual noises will emanate from the engine. The vehicle will drive as a new vehicle of its era would. The one word description for #2 vehicles is "excellent."

The market is efficient. There are always outliers and exceptions. That price is pretty outrageous, but god bless the guy... if he can get that then he deserves it.
That is around $32k USD. Honest/market value is probably around $20k USD.

I'm working on a website for the car, all will be answered in time.
This car has been pampered since day one. Original leather seats and very little wear etc. First owner drove her all over north America during the first 10 years or so, everything documented including all gas, speeding tickets, storage dates etc. 50k in service from the first owner. Car than sat for 10 years with he second owner (neighbor), drove maybe 5k. I purchased it in 2013 with 180k on the clock. Appraised last year, comments were from that document.
Then I went to town on the mechanical. Added the OEM cup 1's, H-pipe, RMB etc.
I have thousands of photos of my restore. But will get some better beauty shots taken soon.

Nice looking car! Here's what I think you need to fix if you want to get the "big bucks":
1) Wrong wheels-- at least include the originals in the sale.
2) Incorrect shift ****
3) Aftermarket radio
4) Wrong exhaust (no cats, looks like an x-pipe+RMB)
5) Missing refrigerant sticker, wrong cross-member, wrong color oil cap.
6) Need close-up of jump-post and ABS terminal block.
7) And more/better pictures so we can find more stuff for you to fix.

Exhaust is a selling feature IMO.
It's gonna take me a few weeks to finish website. I'm still developing the site map.

Jim, IMHO Adam's car is a #2. That ask is not crack pipe crazy, although I agree the miles might make it a stretch at this point in the value curve. Good luck Adam!

Beautiful car and very well maintained.
I had the chance to see it at Frenzy last September.
With the things that Jim mentionned fixed, this car worth the asking price for sure.
GLWS Adam.
Curious, I hope not but are you leaving the 928 world or are you looking to buy another one ?
GTS maybe?

I would replace the aftermarket radio with an original. They exist and can be refurbished to good as new.
In today's market, originality is important. That radio is just wrong in the car for the asking price if you are looking for a collector/enthusiast. Hard to imagine anyone on this forum who would pay your asking price, therefore the originality is more important.
I do hope you get your asking price regardless. Nice car.

What would my friend's 87 5 speed with the stroker 6 liter go for? We have it running now. Cracked dash, and everything else is really nice. black on black.
