Default factory service manuals for 86.5

Question about these FSM and wire diagrams for an 86.5, I know the major differences of the newer/older 928 but which manuals should I be referring to when working on mine? a combination of both 86 and 87? thanks again.

Best to buy a gray set as they are the most up to date and cover your car.
Or better still order the 5 CD set of Jim Morehouse CD's for $75. Includes the full set of WSM's in searchable and printable format.

Roger, this sounds great. More info is needed to obtain. Also is there a way to view a sample of these? Do the 5 cd's pertain to all years or do I order a specific set? Thanks again
Hmmm. If they are for all years, this is a good enough reason to find more 928's

I don't have them, but I believe they cover all years. Someone will confirm.
Here's something written by Alan. An excellent primer to learn how to read the Wiring Diagrams.

Plus the Morehouse CD's also include copies of all of the tech-spec booklets, AND special publications from Porsche on ABS brakes including test procedures and troubleshooting, and factory repair guides for aluminum and steel body work, and also details on the HVAC system for all years, plus factory electrical training manuals. But wait, there's more: They also include documentation and test plans for EZF, EZK, K, L, and LH injection systems, and perhaps best of all is the service information for each model year with details of "what's new" info for that year. PLUS all of the tech bulletins for 928s! And that's just CD #1.

Just get them.

I have an 86.5 and I sometimes struggle with whether to go with 86 or 87 in the manual. I have a set of the grey factory WSMs. In general, I don't think it makes that much of a difference (86 vs 87). Obviously, for something that was upgraded in 86.5, like the brakes, you'd probably go with 87. My car has the EZF ignition and you have to be careful to get the correct wiring diagram in this regard. In the Morehouse CD there is a nice factory tech booklet that covers the ignition for 84/85/86. "Test Plan EZF Ignition and LH Jetronic Injection 84/85/86". Near the front of the book is a decoder page which you have to be careful to apply, as not all pages in the book apply to a specific model year. But I have found it to be very helpful trouble shooting the ignition and fuel injection system.

My experience is that the 1986 electrical drawings cover the 86.5 US cars. Other sections of the manuals like brakes and suspension deserve a look at the '87 information.

My experience is similar to Dr. Bob's. I have the grey cover manuals and the 86 wiring diagrams have always worked for me when I have had to attack a problem in my 86.5.
