Default Bad experience

Be aware!!!!

I just had a bad experience with 928 International. They advertise half off on used parts. I saw they had and still have listed on their web-site a used gas cap w/key for my 79 928 for $75.00 or $37.50 at the sale price. I figured as long was i was buying the gas cap I would also pickup a few other parts that I could use. The gas cap was the main purchase.

Today I received my parts, minus the gas cap. I called and spoke with Tom, who explained that just because it's on the web-site that i t doesn't mean they have it in stock. Then why have it advertised if you don't have it? I believe this deceptive advertising.

I made this purchase over the telephone. You would think they would have a current inventory system that when someone calls in they would check the availability of the part before accepting your credit card payment.

I am not happy with this company, who I've done business with in the past. I will no longer source parts through them as I feel i was ripped off by their deceptive advertising.

I will be interesting to see if they reply as I'm sure they monitor these forums.

The main question I have, is why is the part still advertised on their web-site. is it hopes that some day they will come across another used gas cap and be able to sell it?

Instead of bashing on a public forum, why not ask to speak with Mark Anderson and get this issue resolved? They are a site sponsor here and generally have a good reputation.

i think its equivalent to buying things that are advertised. " gas caps on sale, as long as supplies last"
you might order one, but there isnt one to ship and they cant update their adds to reflect current inventory
i think they still have transmission for sale, but they haven't had a s4 5 speed in a long time! as an example

I'm not bashing anyone, simply telling the truth and giving a heads up. I don't know who Mark Anderson is but if he would PM me maybe we could resolve this. If he works for 928 International then maybe Tom should have turned me on to him for resolution as I told Tom I would not be using their company anymore and that I was not happy with their service.

Ah, you are buying parts from a junkyard. They get an order and someone goes and digs around the shelf and checks the cars outside for your part... It is a very small company three full time employees and two part time last I checked in...
So no they do not keep a running inventory count on used parts. Primarily for tax purposes if you inventoried them with a price or value that becomes a reason for the IRS to disallow your deduction of the total price of purchased cars as a current expense which inflates the earnings and then the taxes. As it is all the junk is carried at a zero cost basis and has no book value or any real value until it actually gets sold. Used parts are so difficult to put a value on due to wear and tear or simple.
demand.
Just to clarify you were ONLY charged for what was shipped ? .... correct.

Just call them back and ask for Mark and I'm sure he will get it resolved.

What resolution are you looking for? They don't have the part and can't make one appear out of thin air. Did you get charged for it?

You cannot be serious.

I can find you thousands of items listed on Amazon and Best Buy's site they do not have in stock. Websites are not kept up to date, real time, with inventory.

On top of that they are selling used parts and also having a huge sale. They may have shown one in stock when you were on the phone not knowing maybe another order was already being processed for the same part.

I thought this was the season to be jolly.... fa la la la la.......

Murf,

With due respect I think you are being a bit unreasonable with this post albeit I respect your right to air your point of view as I do mine.

Although I have never taken Mark [the owner by the way] up on this traditional offer to Rennlist I know for a fact that the offer applies to items Mark has in stock and in his intro post [still up there in the admin section] Mark articulates this clearly.

His promotion is very popular with members of this list old and new and whereas the discount item may well have been your "main event" to Mark and his small team it is another order that doubtless they wanted to do their best to get out at what for them is a very busy time of year. That you have the other bits by now says something very positive I would politely suggest.

If I was to try this for this offer I would have given them a call to specifically ask if it was available given the cautionary warning but to expect them to correct their web page to reflect current availability or immediately understand from a cold call if one is even available, all I can say is kindly remember that this is not Amazon.com.

Perhaps Mark should consider limiting his offer to paid up members only. Indeed, perhaps posting should be limited to paid up members as well [Eric?].

Regards

Fred

I'm as irreverent as anyone here and I think you're a bit off the deep end here, Murf. I get what you're saying: you placed a phone order and feel like they should have had the ability to real-time confirm while they had you on the line. Instead you didn't find out until your partial order arrived. I think this would disappoint most of us, too.

So, accepting that their inventory system isn't what you'd like it to be, I think your primary beef would be with not finding out until you opened your package. So you'd like to suggest to the good folks there that they should call back if they find out they can only partially fill an order. This would be reasonable and constructive criticism.

Coming here and warning folks who have sourced from all of our friendly suppliers just strikes us as funny, for the most part. I've "only" spent a couple grand on parts in the last two years and I definitely have forum sponsor vendors who I like and some who I find irritating. But, I have also found that ALL of our sponsor vendors have strong supporters here who are quick to point out any consumer-side foolishness when they complain publicly.

So, next time I have to order something that I know only (irritating vendor) can supply. I grit my teeth, check my mental notes, and grin and bear it. The only other option is to scour junkyards, and of course the friendly bird follks over at the other forum.

Anyways. My point is you basically walked into a Mark (& Tom) fan club and "warned" the paid-in-full members about their very idol. You have a kernel of a complaint, but you are sorely mis-assessing the audience.

Finally, I'll allow that you've got a lot more legit complaint IF they kept your money and didn't ship you the part. But, I don't think this is the case.

The listings are the prices for things, if they exist. It is not an advertisement. Pictures of things at a junkyard are sometimes not there when you call for them.

You were not charged for what you didn't get. Were you? You carefully didn't mention that.

It's a junkyard...albeit a NICE one, not a parts counter.

If you manage this....better...odds are HIGH that the next time this parts wanders in as part of an insurance recovery/etc, they will let you know right away.

You're pissing in the wind with one of the best global 928 vendors. Mark is more than a stand up guy, try to come at this from a practical angle.

FWIW, I inquired about an 89 Automatic Trans, with Lsd. Got one in the catalog, for 2 grand. That's if there is a used one in stock. There wasn't, so what. I've still got to pull my tranny and get it to Doc. Brown. Mark, and his employees are the best there is!!

As far as the gas cap, try LA Dismantlers, last time I looked they had one with a key.
