Default Wanted: 16V 4.7 litre engine for '85 BRISBANE QLD

Hi guys,

As the title says, does anyone know of a complete 4.7 litre engine (elec injection) to suit a 1985 car for sale ?

The timing belt sprocket thing on the left hand camshaft broke off while the car was running. The bolt started to rattle and then *bang*.

Location BRISBANE Queensland Australia.

PM me if anyone knows of anything. Thanks.

Hey Justin,

Maybe you can just repair the engine as the days of good second hand engines are well and truly gone. What is left is engines that are suitable for rebuilding. Did you strip the existing engine down to assess the damage?

Not an unheard-of failure. It means the valves on both heads may be damaged. Probably not all but a bunch. The math depends on who does what to the engine and how much an engine costs over there. If you can rebuild the engine then it's two head rebuilds, plus valves, and gaskets. (Plus all that while-you-are-in-there madness) I'd figure $1500 USD to do it myself in the States.

The front of the camshaft (where the bolt screwed into) is broken. A big chunk of it is missing.

I found the number for Matt but (alas) he doesn't have anything.

I'm open to importing, as long as I get a good runner.

Try aPorscheaPart in Melbourne .... http://www.aporschapart.com/

Last time I was there they had a warehouse full of parts and some motors on pallets.

A good running 30 year old engine.....there is the problem.

I buy every single one of these engines I can find, but I consider all of them to be rebuildable cores, at this point in time. I pay no attention to the mileage or if they ran, when I buy them.

I have a engine in the process of being rebuilt, it has lots of new parts and will make lots of power over and above what a standard engine makes. It of course costs more than a rebuild able engine.....it hasn't been completed as yet and maybe you could take it over for the parts costs?

Assuming going aftermarket EFI, how about trying to fit a later model 32V engine in there instead ?

Good/bad idea ?

Big job, big expense and the car will be worth less. Why do it?

I think I would just buy a 2 valve engine or the parts that are required to rebuild yours. Understand that when you open the motor you will be doing a full rebuild. Albeit just rings and bearings as appossed to reboring etc but the amount of new parts you will require to do the job properly adds up. That is what a 30 year old engine needs.

Just for the sake of information I am importing from Douglas Valley some GTS quarter panels. It is costing about $1500 I suspect you would be up for that or a bit more due to handling fees due to weight.
