Question Gold-tone wheel question please?

hi !

From time to time I see gold-colored "manhole" wheels on the 928.
Are these factory?
Certain years only? Were they available with any color car or only certain paint colors? Thanks !!!!!

mine have a gold tinge but i think thats just the silver paint fading. not unlike how the intake turns a fantastic shade of taupe over time.

Platinum colored seven slot rims.

My 84 had them, but I removed them.

Yep, factory option, platinum-metallic anodized wheels.

BTW - chrome wheels were never a factory option on the 928, so any chrome wheels you see on 928's are aftermarket (sometimes done by the dealer in the USA, but never from factory).

Platinum and Gold were available IIRC.
I have gold anodized on the Weissach and Platinum anodized on the Jubilee.

hi, and thanks....

Am I correct in stating that "PLATINUM" is the name for the "silver-grey" colored wheel,
and "GOLD ANODIZED" is the name for the "gold" colored wheel?
Thanks so much for helping me understand....

(I do know most of my ABC's LOL ! ! ! !)

I had a set of tinted wheels. They were anodized something but I don't know the exact color. Looked like a mix of gold and pewter.

This is a picture of my 84 when it had the platinum rims.

I went to the 928OC.org registry and looked at my option codes...and it didn't give an option code or mention anything about the rim coloration. So, I'm not sure if all 84's got this style/color rim or not? Also, I've seen these rims on several different colored cars.

I've never seen any rims that were actually gold, like pictured above.

Weissach with Gold wheels and Jubilee with Platinum/Pewter wheels.

I have seen the gold wheels on other cars that were not the Weissach edition. Although I have never seen them as an option anywhere. Came as part of option package M462.

On the Jubilee they were called "lacquered" and available under option M406 in 82. If they were exactly the same color as the other variants 911 & 924 they were platinum/Pewter.

The pewter/platinum/light platinum manholes were available as option M347 all the way through to the early 90's.

So three finishes - silver, platinum and gold.

On the CoA for my RoW Euro S, they were listed as an option.

They were on the car when I bought it, but the gold tone was a bit worn. The car was Hellbronze.
