What capabilities are a must? Still running ITBs? If I inherited your car, being the computer retard that I am, I'd just buy an Alpha N setup from John Speake and Sharktune it. ~$1500 all in (unless you've gotten rid of your stock FI harness and brains), simple, and a community of people, here, who will help get it running properly, for free.

I think the most capable system on the market right now is Holley's Dominator ECU. Modern processor, tons of inputs and output triggers, autotune etc and dual wideband O2 capable. But a lot more expensive than the Megasquirt, around $2000 for the computer alone. This was one of two candidates for my GT project.

Cheers!

Sterling,

The new tuners want it easy and want to sell you crap! The M48 is a fine unit. The cheapest way is to use it and use excel for the maps to adjust based on data logging.

If you use a newer data logger such as a CDL, you can export all the data to i2 and then tweak and enter those values into the trims. To tweak the map.

It shouldn't be that difficult..

Alternatively, you can sell the M48 and buy an Autronic with self tune ability...

A newer Motec M150 isn't a bad upgrade on flea bay. You can sell the M48 and buy one of those as well.

Then again, I am biased, I have 2 Motec Ecu's and a dash logger as well as two PLM's...

Yes, I am certifiable

But, going from a Motec to a tec gt is like going from a Porsche to a Hyundai. Not because everyone else has one means it's good.

If you have issues with your Motec system, have you tried calling Motec?

Sterling - the real stuff is happening right now with the AEM Infinity series. More pins than you can even use, great support for the software, and most importantly, the community is very large - tuners know what is what, and what needs to happen.

I would say also that there are good options around VIPEC/LINK, as these units continue to be developed as well.

This is leading-edge stuff. For less cost, but more hassle and fiddling, there is the MS3X from the megasquirt community.

That motec you have is generations behind, but it is also something you bought in the early 2000s. Its a computer. Computers have a half life of about 3 years.

Have to agree with Richard, I don't think there is anything wrong with the M48 Pro, this is what V8 Supercars ran here as the series ECU and they had the cars running just fine with ITBs. The M48 is just a pretty basic ECU in terms of functions, it requires add on boxes for things like electronic throttle and coil on plug ignition. It is a very solid and stable unit.

Modern ECUs like the newer Motecs do away with lots of add on boxes. My ECUs are the Ole Buhl Racing Euro 8. It has incredible amount of in and outputs, all functions are enabled. i.e traction control electronic throttle and data logging. It runs on Can Bus and can be tuned over the internet running live. The multiple winner of the Targa Tasmania uses this ECU and the car was partly tuned in the UK over the net. It can also run COP and has 6 switchable maps and 8 traction control settings with launch control.

The other ECUs worth having are the Cosworth SQ6M. The link below is worth the read and those guys know what they are doing, multiple world records are Bonneville. They are awesome at harnesses and have just been around to know whats what. My ECU came from them and can be seen lower down on that page, it is the MQ12, I also have a SQ6M which is all that is required except I don't think it can run active rev match but please verify that if you go that route. If you spend the time on their site you will learn a lot.

THe Motec is the yardstick that the others are judged by, the m48 is a very good stable platform , no way I would change to any other unit , other than the Adaptronic 1280 series and only because it allows me to change the configuration and write my own logic , I have calibrated the motecs very regularly .
What are the problems you are experiencing ?
I am happy to help remotely or you could send the whole car to me here and I will sort it out (laughing )
