So you guys had a perfectly restored '78 Minerva, '91 GT, and your midnight blue GTS?
Talk about the perfect trio!

Hey Mark, when is the GT going up for sale? I want to play with the big boys!

ok, now that the Minerva is running out in the wild, we need a comprehensive photo spread as she sits now. Everything! Interior, exterior, engine bay....pretty please

This build and the previous Cobalt restoration need to be a magazine feature together. Rob is accumulating quite the reputation as an outstanding restoration mechanic.

Still thrashing on the details- I have been working with Jim Doerr on various stickers, he's been invaluable with details on part numbers, dimensions, etc. He's got documentation of the complete set of stickers for '78 on his website here, for those who haven't seen it:

Spent a little time finishing the refurb on the spare tire today, with a reproduction of the spare tire warning sticker:

You refurbed the spare tire warning sticker?

I'm not entirely sure if I admire your dedication to detail, or worry about you.

Probably a bit of both.

You two are doing an absolutely amazing job on this.

Yeah, somehow I doubt they'll be checking the underside of the spare tire, but if it's been attended to, I don't have to worry if they do. The sticker thing has gotten a little out of control, will certainly give you that. But the devil's in the details, and having all the proper stickers is a nice detail.

Here's the original, it was fractured and crispy as hell. Had to lay it out on a piece of tape to get all the fragments to lie flat.

And the repro:

Rob - you are the god of stickers. And I agree it makes for a nice finished product. One of the first things I notice when looking at car is crappy or missing stickers. Here's hoping that there will be a 'database' for the Minerva stickers for when the need for one arises....

As part of shaking down and testing Minerva for roadworthiness and finish, we have been taking increasingly longer drives. As Rob mentioned above, it is also time to share the mostly finished product, so some of those outings included the local Cars & Coffee venues in Aliso Viejo and Palos Verdes over the past few weeks.

Below is a short video of Mark's Cobalt GT and Rob's Midnight Blue GTS escorting Minerva to C&C last Saturday. Quite a sight to see 3 different blue 928 on the SoCal highways.

At Aliso Viejo a few weeks ago, none other than auto designer Freeman Thomas spent some time admiring Minerva. As part of the design team at Porsche in his early years, he worked under Tony Lapine and offered some amazing insights into a few inspirations for the 928's design.

Freeman asked if I knew the 2 cars, one German and one U.S., that inspired the rear quarter and front fender of the 928. Before I give his answer, does anyone here know this? It was totally new to me, and now I can't look at the 928 without seeing it.

Rob, When did you put the Cup 1's back on your car? That must feel quite different.

When I couldn't take Bilsteins and Clubsport springs on 18's any longer. The Cup1s with PS2s are so much more comfortable it's ridiculous. Must be getting old.

Well one guess is inspiration, the other is regurgitation, good guesses but incorrect on both counts.

Hint: Consider that Lapine was with GM in the Bill Mitchell heydays...

I can confirm that Rob's car drives much nicer, yet remains VERY fast!
