Well, interesting how a change in perspective seems to reveal easy answers you didn't see before. I now know why my back is sore! Might have to put those tables up about a foot!

With 25,000 or so parts it takes to complete a 928, there is just no shortage of things to clean and recondition. I have to say I am in awe of those pros who dedicate themselves to these complicated, wonderful machines.

But so far anyway, still enjoying the challenge of trying to refurbish as many original parts as possible. Even though most of those will never be seen by anyone but us, and those of you with the endurance to follow this thread.

Plastic and rubber parts have been reacting very well to Linseed oil treatment following thorough cleaning. the sheen disappears after soaking in and a wipe down, leaving a nice new looking part.

Nothing like working with friends, either!

Thanks, Rob. Guess I better go redo the bottom of mine

The engine looks fantastic! My heart goes out to you and William if you put red paint marks on all those fasteners. Personally I'd feel like I was painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa and screwing up a piece of art. Hopefully it didn't have cosmoline - that would be unbearable.

Flip-flops...really?

When it took me twenty minutes to put on enough coats, gloves and gear to go outside for a mere five minutes yesterday (-8...windchill -20). And to think...I actually felt bad, when I didn't at least try to get out in the garage yesterday, and do something on the cars...when it reached 10 degrees.

Flip-flops...eeerrr...

Brian.

Does it really matter that you maintain the vehicle with recommended products?
Yes, the new filter p/n now comes red.

And you're right... what matters most is that the filter does what it's supposed to do. I'm sure this applies to everyone.

And what matters to some is that it is red, like from the factory. So when judges peek underneath, they say 'yep, it's red'.

And what matters to even fewer is that the red filter has the correct markings (which you can only get so close with NOS, unless you miraculously find a '77 date code)
This certainly applies to Rob and myself for special 928s. And Minerva certainly qualifies.

I believe this is my fav pic. It's the first one that shows both inglorious basterds (for Charlie).

May I post this one to my Classics FB page?

I don't know...it looks like William is about to "end-it-all" with a screwdriver.

Granted, he does seem enthusiastic about it...lol.

Sure, Jim- post away!

Put all the fuel pumps back together with their respective Greg Brown hoses and modded hardlines last night. (Yes, the banjos are loose. )

And some exhaust assembly:

And some more random cleaning of bits:

Sure, always happy to spend William's money! But I spent at least 30 seconds gummi-pfledging the originals.....

I assume new ones are thicker? Or just more compliant? What's the benefit other than new is better?

Also need 4 of the 900 123 005 20, a 477 971 851, and an N 023 569 2, please.

I know a lot of people have already said it, but the job you two are doing on this car is amazing. The level of detail, the speed that it's going at, the overall quality of the restoration is going to result in a car that will be head and shoulders above any that I'm aware of. Maybe James' "Blue 82" is close. Maybe Kermit.

I'm somewhat torn on what this demonstrates.

Is it how fabulous of a job that can be done by the right people?

Or is it how far this sickness can progress?
