Sounds like a good evil plan. It's not my evil plan, though- this beastie was spoken for before it hit the loading dock at 928Intl. Early bird gets the worm!

I did have a local customer express great interest based on a few pics but as of today it is his.
We did spend the better part of the day trying to get it running. The sludge in the bottom of the gas tank was frightening. Not sure how that happens
A good steam cleaner and a few hours of your life would work wonders on that bottom side. Did the same to my 84, which was a tad cleaner than yours, and it made working on stuff so much more pleasant.
Looks like a very fine start, though, to a project. Glad it's being saved, as it should be...to nice of shape not to be. Good luck getting it running, and if there is some little hard to find object for it you need or can't find locally...just parted out a 78 last month and have a few things left.
Congrats on a great find.... maybe you can get this one in shape for the next Concours on the Avenue in Carmel We never did get an 'old bugger" this last time, but would be nice to have a full complement of years at the next one..
Clocks ticking...better get Rob on it now
As far as the fuel components go, don't stop at the FD alone. Have the WUR rebuilt and replace all 8 injectors with the Benz option. Once you do this your hours spent doing bits and pieces will be reduced considerably. Just go with all new, and have the pressures set right before starting.
Took about 150 pics yesterday- this car has been in California forever, thank God, no corrosion whatsoever underneath. I think it deserves to stay essentially as is, just needs a very thorough cleaning. My take would be to drop the drivetrain and clean the snot out of everything carefully, then put everything back exactly where it was, other than the fuel lines and the (still) aluminum ball joints.

Which A/C center vent does it have? I have seen both the narrow-slotted one with a rotary **** on the left side, or without. Not sure whether the difference was an early vs. late '78 thing, or a US/ROW thing, or a manual/automatic A/C thing.
