1978 only. My paint shop lost my trim about 15 years ago. The '78 trim is not listed as unique, so I kept ordering non-78 trim that did not fit.
I could not find '78 trim, so I ended up locating used euro trim and cut it up to fit.
And thanks for that picture!

I polished them by hand over the years and was surprised to read here that everyone said Porsche painted these wheels.
No sign of paint or anodizing on mine. But maybe it was removed?

Minerva doesn't have those notches in her driving light frames, but that's likely because based on the date codes we think her front bumper cover was cast in 1981.
Another day, another marinade. Parts washer fluid is getting darker and less effective- there is so much freaking oily grime in this motor- Safety Kleen is coming next week for a service, right after I do the axle shafts....
Note the plated rear sway bar links:

I sure hope it is not in the engine compartment. Makes for some really hot air
Mine is located in the exact same spot as on the GTS (give or take a few mm). I think the picture you're thinking about was a bit misleading as I had not yet installed the evaporator and heater core. Just had the filter placed for the photo.
Cheers!
Carl

Another day, another component cleaned. These will get glass beaded to get _all_ the crap off, then sent with the plating. Pins, pad retainer, sliding frame, mounting frame, piston, bleeders, everything. In order to match the rotor shields. The front suspension is blingy!

Chris-
No experience plating calipers before- I need to bead blast these a little to make sure the surfaces are good for the platers.
Made a little more progress on getting bits ready for plating today- Needed to harvest the axle boot flanges, so I put the new press to work:
And the old shock collars were no match:
Not bad for 38 years- still show some original plating:
Lots of pieces for the plater:
Meanwhile, the painters are making good progress:
Where do you go for NOS unobtanium? 928 Intl. Never realized that there is a hammertone finish that was stock in a 928- These are cam tower plug 'lock plates', 78-79 only:

Ever curious about how many plated parts there are on a '78? So was I. The answer is, a lot:
Harvested the last two this morning- rear hub e-brake brackets.
Anyone have any idea how far into the production run Porsche made their own home-brew tack-welded eccentrics for the rear suspension?

Looks like one of my model kits from days gone by.
What are you doing to the main section of the headlight raising bar (middle section)? And, do those backing plates come that clean from just a parts cleaner...or are you blasting some of these items?
It's amazing the progress you've made.
Brian.

Brian-
The rotor dust shields were cleaned then lightly blasted- I'm trying not to vaporize too much cadmium, I think I gave myself brain damage from the first car's worth that I blasted everything down to bare metal without a proper filtered vacuum.
The center section of the headlight bar and the hood hinges are interesting- they don't _look_ like they were ever plated, until you take them off and look in the protected crevices, then one can find slight refringence from the chromate wash. I have been going back and forth with Jim Doerr about correct finishes for everything. I'm going to err on the high side and have everything plated- if it turns out something was supposed to be bare finish, I can always blast it clean.

Nice work- I just bought the same press at HF and really like it so far, for a ghetto press. Made short work of the shock collars.
That comment about the cadmium hits home for me. I cleaned a bunch of the hardware last year and did not use filtration. Did not even think about what was plated out. Can't say I've noticed much of a mental decline cause I fried most of my brain from years in a lab huffing various fumes, all accidental of course.
