LSD lookup from VIN HELP with PET
Memebers,
Im fairly new to the forum and I am looking at 2 potential 928s for sale and need help determining if they have an Limited Slip gearbox or not. One is an 87 S4 and the other an 88 S4. Does anyone have PET and could look up the option codes for me to see if either one has it? The cars are not local, otherwise Id look under the car at the stamp. Thanks!
VINS
WP0J80923HS862261
WP0JB0926JS860588
(I put zero after the WP but is it a letter O?)
Thanks!

It's a zero. There are no "letter 'O'" in the VIN.

First VIN is not good even after changing out the O for an 0.
Second VIN is good and the car has LSD - unfortunately it also has a manual gearbox 8>)

I'm an idiot. The first one should be a B and not an 8. Would you mind searching that one again?
It should be this Rob. Thanks!

The very early limited slips with the 2 friction plates on each side are also "lame" as supplied stock, but they can be taken apart and turned into a performance enhancing limited slip.
I would not let the presence of a limited slip be the deciding factor in a purchase of a "late" car....there are far more important things to be looking for.

With the age of these cars, it's smart to not go by the VIN, but actually jack up the rear wheels, put the car in neutral, and spin one wheel forward. If the other wheel goes forward too, you have LSD, if it stays still or if it goes backward, you DON'T have LSD.
So many things may have happened over the years, better to make sure. Of course, you could always go buy an LSD later if you really want it.
Finally, I agree with GB on the aspect of LSD in these cars. The Weissach axle and weight distribution make LSD kind of superfluous except for that last 0.1% of performance on the track under cornering accel. They are fine without it.

Don't always assume you can tell from the VIN, especially on multiple owner cars. My car was non-LSD by the VIN, but has a swapped used gear-box from an 85 w/ LSD from 928 INTL by the previous owner. Not typical, but just FYI.
