Euro S2 motor - Pricing Poll
I know the old saying is - something is worth as much as someone is willing to pay. With having said that - just curious on what a good solid running 85 S2 motor is worth these days. What do you think its worth?
Needs nothing except maybe an oil pan gasket. 110-115K miles.
0000-1500
1500-2500
2500-3500
3500-5000
This poll does not include the ECU/EZF to run the motor. Poll reflects US dollars.

Do you know the history of the engine?
-how well was it maintained?
-Leak down numbers?
-Compression numbers?
-Crank end play? (auto or manual?)
-How do the gears look?
-When was the T-belt done last?
-How do the cams look?
-Any signs of cracking at the left bank cam key?
-And most importantly, are you selling or buying

All cylinders are in spec for compression and leak down
CEP - Auto - Dunno the numbers off hand but the flex plate was adjusted at the time of T-belt service - 2013
Cam gears replaced in 2013
Tbelt - water pump - all seals - oil pump gear all replaced 2013 (basically the entire front end was gone through)
No cracking on cam key
Since front end was rebuilt in 2013 - the motor has less than probably less than 1k miles on it. Possibly even less
No oil leaks except some seepage from the oil pan gasket.
All service was done by our local Porsche Master Tech who specializes in water cooled engines.
Not selling nor buying - just curious on what market value is.
Thanks for the reply.

Since you can get one with a 1 year warranty from 928Intl for $2000, or $1000 in December, I would say either $750 or $1500, depending on whether it's December or not. Add $500 for the essentially new cam gears and TB work- So $1250 or $2K.

A little patience is key here. Try and find a somewhat abused/accident prone 80+ euro close by with a good motor. Take what's needed, sell off some parts and get the motor, etc. for close to nada.02 T

It's extremely rare but it's use is extremely limited also. So many 84's had the different pistons and lower compression. There were I think 285 1985S2's imported and about 45 1986S2's. So 330 total of which maybe 150 still exist. I have 2 of those 150 engines. .............. But who has a need for 1 except another S2 owner?

I had no idea the numbers on the imports to the US were so low.
I guess I was fortunate to have found a 84 and a 85 S2 in Phoenix. The 84 is long gone and I of course still have my 85.
Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I think i had one of the best deals arond, when i bought the euro intake, (84), early euro heads, early euro cams all for $2k. that is stilll a good deal in my book.
all the other stuff is non sense, unless there is damage. (cam gears and other stuff are usually good for another 50k miles as long as they dont look "ugly". )
and i always rope another timing belt around it so i KNOW its done and done right.
i guess the big question is what the short block is worth thats $750 to 1K because its really nothing special and most everyone has a 4.7 liter short block, and if they dont, they might want to do the 5 liter direction. so a full running late model S2 euro (84-85) i would think up to $2500 might be reasonable. with a good deal being in the 1500 to 2k range.

The L H Euro s 4.7 has high compression 10.4 pistons which helps a lot...and with a new gasket set around $ 500 bolting anything together quickly adds $$$ to the deal.

yep, complete and no need to assemble is certainly worth something if it is in great shape... be a total shame to install a motor that needed a head gasket after a few 1k miles.
