No. I'm pretty sure he means imported (grey marketed) into the US from where ever they were originally sold.

I know that there were 500 5-speeds made in 85 in the "S2" configuration (only officially called the S2 in Great Britain).

I have an 85 5-speed originally sold in Germany and grey marketed into New Jersey in 89, according to the stickers.
