HEY,

My son and I are taking off tonight to head your way. Being a desert dweller, He has asked to visit the ocean while we are there. Where is a nice clean beach we can go to that's not too far from the hotel so we can be back for tomorrow night?

Your best bet is probably Huntington Beach.

Default On site clinic?

Are there any onsite clinics planned for this year's sharktoberfest? If not is there any possible way we could have an "how to replace your torque tube clinic"? I'm pretty sure mine needs to be replaced as it sounds like the bearings are going out and it would be awesome if I could help assist an expert willing to donate their time and also help educate others in the at the same time.

The tool case does not survive shipping very well, so I'd rather not. You'd have to wrap the individual plates and other components so they don't tear up the inside and then box the case snugly with a little padding. It weighs a ton too.

Be sure to lube the threads before use. Make sure the instructions sheets survive. I have to look at them each time I use the tool, and you may remember the setup is not always exactly like the diagrams. We didn't have any real trouble when doing your car, Jeff, but I've gotten the alignment just a bit off during the bearing pull or used the wrong back plate which hung up on the hub carrier and managed to bend the yoke despite being almost an inch thick steel. Good luck. Too bad I can't make it.

Also, George blew a hole in his radiator just before the Grapevine detour and it continued to drain despite removing the radiator cap, enough so he has turned around. Can't get to the leak (supercharger obstruction). Stop Leak last resort installed. He's heading home, stopping every 30 miles to put in a couple of gallons. I'm going to try to cancel his Embassy Suites reservation for him.

Jeff, for all I know the Grapevine mess may have stopped you too.

That's what I figured Bill.... Dr. Bobs has taken a beating being shipped around too... No worries..will find a way to either get down to Bend..or just pick up the B-90 tool so we can have one up here for the PacNW 928 guys..

I'm bummed I couldn't make it down to Sharktoberfest this year, but maybe a blessing in disguise...would have been stuck in the grapevine mess too....timing wise..

For all you that make it down..have a blast !!

Bill

Got it on the tool

Sucks for George

The kid and I made it. 678 miles from Santa Cruz.

THAT much detour for us. At Greg's shop swapping transmissions in the 87 now.

A little too late for me, since I made it home already. I need to get under the car tomorrow (after it cools down and I have some light) and see if I can find the leak. I put a total of 5 1/2 gallons in on the way home. The stop leak seemed to slow down to flow, but I'll probably have a mess to clean up in the cooling system.

Sorry to miss the fun. Oh and Mark is there any way to talk to Joe about the room? Hopefully he will have a soft spot for a 928 owner in trouble. The phone number that they gave to Bill for the hotel doesn't seem to connect to anyone.

Thanks,

Tom--

We'll just need to figure out a convenient hand-off place in between here and there. Or I'll find a poly travel tool case somewhere big enough for all the pieces. The thin blow molded case it came in has a formed liner to hold the pieces. Even in a box with padding, the pieces are heavy enough to fracture the formed liner with normal shipping abuse.

Right now not many (read: no) other 928 users here yet. I haven't been to any PCA events yet due to other commitments, although I've seen several other cars out and about in traffic. So you can take the tool and use it for PNW clinics or whatever, and not worry about returning it until I get a larger fan base at the new digs. We have other wars to wage here right now.

Do things get started pretty early on Saturday? The Mrs. and I are in LA for a long weekend, and I was able to talk her into spending the morning with you all. Sans 928, or course, but I'll be happy to take anyone on a rental Camry fun run!
