New Door & Aero Mirrors ?
For my 87 S4 with its sideswiped door .....that requires having the door replaced ...... I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to change the mirrors to the aero mirrors ?
Dont know if the newer style mirrors are still available?
Or have they become over priced ?
I was making every attempt to keep the 87 original & even kept the tape player /radio (it works ...and I'm old enough to have a stash of tapes... 80s flashbacks).
The 928 will no longer be original, most likely have the crash show up on a car fax, and the driver side mirror a has some noticeable road rash, and I doubt if I'll sell the car.
What would you do ?

Find the mirrors you like and then decide.
928 International has a pretty extensive selection of used doors. You may be able to find one that's already the correct color for your car. You usually get to swap in the door guts (window regulators, locks and latches, window trim and door card) from your old door, stuff you'll probably do for a repaint anyway, so be sure to get the support pieces you'll need for that.

I agree with Dr. Bob - Mark at 928 Int is your best bet.
Aero mirrors are listed at $649 a set but do not come with the two mirror glass's. How anyone can sell an AERO MIRROR KIT and not include the mirrors is beyond my comprehension. The two mirrors are listed at $175 each - total price circa $1000. I remember not that long ago they were $400 for the complete kit including glass.
Used mirrors sell for $400 to $500 as set on eBay unless you get lucky. May need new bases if not from a 928. Somebody fitted 968 aero mirrors with 968 bases and they seemed to fit well.

Not cheap but they look nice. With an '87 you have all the wiring you need for these to work correctly - you have to match up between a color difference - but all the functions are there - a 1:1 wire mapping.
If you had memory flags you can do memory aeros, if non-memory flags you will only be able to configure the aeros as nom-mem - either way it's still a 1:1 mapping electrically.
Pre-S4 cars need a relay based adapter for the aero mirrors to work correctly.

The aero mirrors DO look better, unless you prefer your car to look original. However the visability IS better with the flag mirrors. So there is a trade off that way. Having both, I would not do it, even for $500 let alone a grand. Unless you were gonna put GTS flares also and really go for the GTS look.

Well it would be more of a harness with integrated relay. I know someone used to sell these - Motorsports in SLC seems to come to mind - but I'm not quite sure... anyone know? Its quite the specialty hand built item - the relay is just a standard SPDT type. Without the relay you cannot make aeros work correctly electrically on an early (Pre-S4) car. You could make them (you need 2) yourself - but the wiring matching is a challenge.
Some folks have previously suggested they have done this without a relay - but I know they have either totally deluded themselves or have extremely low standards with regard to what "working correctly" means.
Early mirrors have 1 motor and a plane drive changeover solenoid and late mirrors have 2 motors: 1 for each plane. These two systems are fundamentally not directly electrically compatible.

Purchased a set of manual type Aero mirrors from Roger a few years back for JP. IIRC saved approx $ 200-250 less than the electrics. Adjusted them when first installed and not had to do again. If another driver of different stature is getting behind the wheel frequently, you might opt for the electrics.02 T
