No clue on the cause of the accident. Just high speed doesn't cause a crash like this. Uneven braking (left-right), exploding tyre, panic steering to avoid something, does cause this kind of crash

Of course high speed caused this kind of accident regardless of other potential factors.

I suspect the punter was going at a fair old lick. Having seen the remnants of a reasonable number of 928's involved in high speed incidents not to mention a certain 1990 S4, this type of pattern of damage with the passenger compartment in survivable condition is no fluke but rather a consequence of very solid design.
Nine years ago when my late S4 slammed into a solid barrier [at quite a steep angle of attack] at around 70 mph not only did I manage to get out with the doors opening as normal I was able to recover the motor and a whole of other things. The front passenger side had the worst of the hit and my 3 piece forged wheel, although suffering rim damage, had a tyre that remained inflated [the lower arm snapped off].
I would hazard a guess and say few if any cars ever built are as solid as these things. Having such accidents is no fun- that I can tell you- but if your karma is such that you are going to have a big one then this is the car to have it in.
