I had someone in a Celica do this to me on an onramp to a highway this weekend. I wasn't revving or anything at the stop light prior. Just patiently waiting to make my left turn.

I let them pull ahead a bit to give them a feeling of accomplishment, then blew by them in 2nd gear

Ahhhhhh.
The universe always rectifies itself....

The DB teen down the street got nailed this morning by the cops.

He was altered and took out my neighbors mailbox with his BMW last night...then fled the scene, only problem... he parked at his house three doors down.
One other problem for him...his license plate was sitting next to the mailbox, hehe, what an *******.
Still drunk when the cops found him, Daddy's gonna have to call his attorney again.

You guys have to stop thinking these 30year old cars are as fast as their modern day equivalents and just enjoy them for what they are....or get a supercharger!

I get razzed by ricers all the time. " What 'ill ti do in the quaat?".... "Quarter what?".... "Quatta mile".."3rd gear!! A quarter mile is too short. I'll never get it out of 3rd."...... "But what 'ill it do?"....."Factory specs guarantee 14 Sec/ 100 Mph in 3rd gear for 1/4 mile.. How fast will your ricer do the 1/4 mile in 3rd?.. SHOW SOME *****, RACE LIKE A MAN!!..Get on the interstate with me and punch it. First one to hit 150 MPH and hold it for 5 minutes wins!" I get NO takers on that one. As for new Mustangs, Chargers etc., my question for them is "How did it do at Le Mans?" I get no answer on that. Come back when your Detroit Pig Iron is 30 years old and we'll race.
Only 2 ways to go fast:-- Add H.P. as in cubic inches, OR "add lightness" - as in remove weight. Being lighter is generally easier and cheaper. To get my Euro (3300 Lbs, 310 HP) from 10 Lbs/HP down to 9 Lbs/HP I either have to get the engine up to 370 HP or get the weight down to 2800 lbs. Putting BigBlu83 on a diet is cheaper.

Yup. Now when I get a challenger, I point to my boost gauge and give them a raised eyebrow coupled with a stern seriously-you-want-me-to-rip-your-automotive-manhood-off-in-front-of-your-friends look.

No takers so far.

Live in Oklahoma City. With Farmtruck and Azian and the other Street Outlaws and wannabes running around don't think it's a very good idea to try to find a race unless you just want to give them your money. Think that threat kinda kills the average challengers. After the show came out the street racing crowed has become the track rat crowd. They get together and rent out road course tracks for the day instead of street racing. Have used Chuck's dyno several times. That is the place in town to get Dynojet pulls 3 for $20.

My S4 had "Classic" plates; so everyone pretty much left me alone.
My GT doesn't have the classic plate but I (like many of you) still only get the head turns and not so much the challenge.

While the 928 is many things, quick/fast, it's not

Relative to a 4 cyl. car of today, sure. But to most sports cars or performance coupes, it's in the dust. But the other attributes are where the 928 shines, and that's I think, why it's got such a following.

You tell that the two guys driving GT3RSs in PCA DE at BIR last weekend. They couldn't catch me in the twisties and needed all 500 HP to pass me on the long front straight. Less than 1/2 sec a lap difference. I was on last year's Hoosiers, btw.

My son suggested I get a bumper sticker that said "ego deflater" on it.

the skills needed to write a check for $300,000 or so have little to do with being able to DRIVE !! Plus they might not want to risk bending their expensive toys. But always good fun until they learn to drive, if they ever actually do

Seems they retail for close to $200,000 or roughly 40x what I got my car for. As a factory-tuned, high-performance 911 it should run away from my overweight luxury car with a modicum of ability and ambition. The drivers, btw, were long-term DE participants and not newbies.

Besides complimenting myself ("Great dicing?") I wanted to give a datapoint on just how good these cars were and continue to be.

Nice one today:

1. Young man waves and points at me on the highway.

2. Middle age guy honks and gives me a thumbs up on same highway.

3. Punk pulls up even in a 90's Camaro with the center section of his rear spoiler deleted, and a giant decal on the window that says "PANTY DROPPER".
He revs it up side by side, wanting to race. I just shook my head...

This.....
These are wonderful cars, but my 08 Saab wagon is faster passing (55-85) with less drama.
I love the 928, but it is what it is.
