Then there is the factor of actual driving skills (which I'm not saying I'm proficient, BTW).

The dude last night was definately a "I'm a douche, check out my flat brimmed baseball hat and aftermarket muffler", so justcie prevailed.

CapeCod is probably right, however, there is always a bigger fish and we are not at the top of the food chain 30 years later.

And yes, I'm sure the dude was in his own chat room saying that his "flashed" Tiberu-ron ran with a porsche.
A 308.. that I can see... but a later model, not so sure.

I'm all for knowing how to drive and spanking some guy with more money than brains.. but reality says "REALLY" when exorbitant claims are made. I don't post often but if I read something silly I have to say something. I do apologize if my comment killed some good natured fun. It's not my place to dictate the tone of a thread..

Well, OKC is where they do that show Street Outlaws. Everyone now wants to go out to some secluded road and race for monies. Not much stoplight stuff any more.

Dr. Bob, right you are about no place to kickup the heels in L.A. -Lived there for three years (school) and I enjoyed taking early sunday morning rides up Mulholland, nursing a stoner's hangover, driving the world's worst handler: a swingaxle corvair van.

I almost don't want to post this, but here goes anyway. As someone posted previously, I usually don't post much but have to comment on this topic. True story - I was telling my buddy from Cali about wanting a 928 (still don't have one) and he starts going on about his Shelby GT500. Set up a race with another buddy in Cali with a 928 (87 manual I think) and the Shelby was faster. My thought was 'if the 928 had a 351c.i. and a supercharger with 6 spd, then the fight would be even'. Worst part about it was he was a super sore winner, going on and on and on...blah blah blah. Errrr! I was so mad, more about the teasing than anything.

I still want a 928, even if it is not the fastest thing on the road these days. Hell, nothing says family like "hatchback". At least that is why I tell people I want one.

Take care and Aloha,

Most of these boy racers are pure idiots. I completely ignore them.

Besides, I just got everything sorted and I don't want to break something racing a 32 year old car.

My son has a 17 year old friend that was given a Shelby GT500 by his brainless father.

The stupid kid street races on a very busy bridge, then posts the video on You Tube. Guess you can't fix stupid.

I go to work with wheels on the ground at 160 mph, then accelerate to 600 mph with a good wind. Went supersonic in military, but you are so high there is no sensation of speed. But 400 mph at 500 ft will get your attention.

That is enough excitement for me and I won't be responsible for killing some kid who gets in the way of a street shoot out.

I read all these posts about being challenged at stop lights etc. I have yet to have anyone ever want to race. Lots of questions, but never revving their engines to race me. Not that I would.

The only one I've ever raced was Ed - linderpat (in Blumaxx) and I kicked his ***!

I'm constantly challenged by a GM fan boy buddy who says his Pops' '86 Cadi will blow my doors off!

That one single time I actually got to drive my 928 I didn't race anybody, I guess they were too intimidated by my Female Ninja Supermodel Wife riding shotgun to challenge me.
Years ago I had a 69 Vette with a 400 (yes) small block. Late one night I was cruising with my Female Ninja Supermodel Girlfriend and at a stop light a dude in a black XKE pulled alongside and started revving his engine, and looking over at me all intimidating and such.
I glanced at my FNSG and she gave me the old "This is Sparta!" expression.
I steeled my resolve and all my remarkable abilities of concentration and focused on the stoplight.
This was about 2 am, no traffic anywhere, except some dude that had pulled up right behind me and Mr Jag. No worries.
Green light! VROOM! But Mr Jag is just gently purring off the line ?!?! Why????
Oh no.
Blue lights. Dang it. The guy waiting behind us was You-Guessed-It.
LOL fun! (True Story)

Regardless, there will always be somebody willing to drive closer to the performance edge. They'd pull up and nip at the heels as I'd cruise up the canyon. I'd just use a turnout and let them by. A few turns later, they'd pull into a turnout and let me pass. Most little rocket-ship drivers are better at following than leading in the twisties, it seems.

And... No matter how fast or cool you car is, or how good a driver you think you are, there will always be someone who is driving a faster car, and is willing and maybe able to drive it faster than you are willing to go. They drive away and I don't see them again after I let them by. If they gloat about being able to pass an old guy in a nice old car, so be it. If they are driving a nice car, they get another wave as they go by too. I was that hot shoe once.
Agreed to all above.

There was a saying that Nothing will beat a VW Beetle off the line.
(really any rear/mid engine car)

Regarding getting out of the way as Dr Bob point out,

I did just that yesterday. I looked in the rear view to see a chick with her giant new Apple phone texting away while doing 45 mph 20 ft. behind me.

I feel like when i go out driving, I'm just trying not to be hit by people texting.

I'd rather be surrounded by people who want to 'run',

at least they're paying attention.

Heh Heh Heh. My favorites are the Cadillac V cars. Pretty fast, right? (in a straight line) They seem to notoriously want to run right up on my rear bumper and stay there......until I hit the cloverleaf.....and I never touch the brakes. I usually hear a whole bunch of tire squealing from behind me as they unsuccessfully try to negotiate the cloverleaf at my same speed. I always smile as they emerge from the cloverleaf and I am on the other side of the bridge without them on my butt anymore.

I can understand the Tiburon guy....but most tibbys are 4bangers. I recently got my youngest girl a Tiburon GT.-V6..Tiburon actually means shark, no less....it is wicked *** quick, and very nimble at 100mph....can't see it hanging with a 928, but it sure feels like it could....

The reason the Ferrari lost is it was some kid in daddy's f car tailgating me up a 7% grade. In second the 928 will go well into the triple digits up that hill ( camarillo grade), at least, so they say.

Disclaimer...my earlier post was a dream...it never really happen.

(Just in case my insurance man reads this forum...)

Yes, these are thirty year old cars (mine) and they aren't the fastest thing on the road for sure...especially stock. However, they do handle uite well in the twisty stuff.

Brian.
